Florida gasoline prices continue to fluctuate and averaged $3.07 a gallon for regular unleaded Monday, up 14 cents from a week earlier, according to the AAA auto club. AAA noted that Florida’s swings for months have shown “relative stability within a 30-cent range” in average prices.
“With minimal movement in the oil and gasoline futures markets, we expect prices at the pump to continue bouncing within the same range for now,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a statement Monday.
From the start of April through early June, the average in Florida wavered around $3.10 a gallon. But since June 9, when the average was $3.09 a gallon, the weekly average has gone down 14 cents, up 16 cents, down 15 cents, up 12 cents, down 13 cents and this past week up 14 cents.
Over the weekend, Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, pointed to “price cycling” in Florida, where competing retailers ratchet up prices to restore profit margins after offering cheaper gas. “Few (motorists) know these cycles are predictable and to fill up ahead of them,” De Haan posted Saturday on Bluesky.
The national average price Monday was $3.14 a gallon, down a penny from a week earlier, according to AAA.
