LOCAL NEWS

Mayor John Dailey has had a change of heart and tells TR he will not seek re-election. He provided TR with an official statement.

On Monday, City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow filed paperwork with the Leon County Supervisor of Elections to run for the Tallahassee mayor position in 2026.

The Leon County Commission will address the dispute over the fire services fee today at 3:00 p.m. See the agenda here.

FLORIDA NEWS

General revenue tax collections in June slightly topped a projection, as consumers continued to make purchases ahead of anticipated tariff impacts.

The state’s Citizens Property Insurance Corp. added more than 600 policies last week as it continues to slowly grow. Citizens had 783,344 policies on Friday, up from 782,728 policies a week earlier and 781,467 policies two weeks earlier, according to data posted on its website.

NATIONAL NEWS

President Donald Trump declared a public safety emergency in Washington, DC, yesterday, activating 800 DC National Guard members over concerns of violent crime. He also invoked the 1973 Home Rule Act to take control of the city’s police department for a maximum of 30 days. Over 100 FBI agents will be temporarily reassigned to nighttime patrol duties. 

President Donald Trump signs executive order extending the US tariff truce with China for another 90 days (More).

US stock markets close lower (S&P 500 -0.3%, Dow -0.5%, Nasdaq -0.3%) as investors await key inflation reports this week; consumer price index due today and producer price index expected Thursday (More).
