Florida Jobless Claims Down Slightly

Florida had 6,230 initial unemployment claims during the week that ended Aug. 9, down slightly from the previous week, according to a report issued Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The state had a revised count of 6,252 claims during the week that ended Aug. 2. The state has averaged 6,866 claims a week since the start of June.

An estimated 224,000 claims were filed nationally last week, down from a revised count of 227,000 the prior week. The national numbers are seasonally adjusted, while the state numbers are not adjusted.

The Florida Department of Commerce on Friday will release a July unemployment report. The state’s unemployment rate was 3.7 percent in April, May and June. The national jobless rate in July was 4.2 percent.
