Lincoln Wins Big Bend Golf Championships, Parker Captures Individual Title

On Sep 23rd, Wakulla High School hosted the boys golf Big Bend Championships which included 14 schools with 10 of them being from Leon County. This tournament was the first 18-hole formatted tournament for many of the Leon County high school teams and was held at the Wakulla Sands Golf Club, in Crawfordville, FL. Chiles’ Alex Parker (Sr.) came in first as an individual among a field of 61 total golfers while Lincoln won first as a team competing in a field of nine other teams.

Alex Parker

Parker started off his round with a birdie on the first hole which was a 530-yard par five. He birdied hole number five, capitalizing on another par five on the front nine, ultimately shooting two under (34) through nine holes. Parker found his rhythm on the back nine, stringing together steady play and key birdies from holes eleven through fourteen. Although he bogeyed 17, Parker bounced back with his eighth and final birdie of the match on hole 18 finishing his round shooting a 66 (-6).

When asked about the changes he made on the back nine in comparison to the front, Parker told Tallahassee Reports, “I turned after the front at -2 and found out the group in front of me had two people at -4. Just a little bit of a mental push for some better golf. By chance the putter got hot throughout the back nine and I made 5 birdies. Closing out with a 10-foot birdie putt on 18 was such a great feeling. I’ll remember that moment for a long time.”

Lincoln

Lincoln placed first as a team with a total stroke score of 288 (E), just beating Chiles and Suwannee who both finished with a team score of 289 (+1). Lincoln’s Chase Fleischer (Jr.) led his team with a final score of 69 (-3) placing fourth individually. Fleischer only had one bogey during his entire round and eagled hole number 6, which is a 405-yard par 4. Lincoln had three other golfers finish in the top 10 including Bryce Matthews (Sr.) placing joint fifth shooting a 72 (E), Brandon Hawkes (Sr.) placing joint seventh shooting a 73 (+1), and William Young (Sr.) placing joint tenth shooting a 74 (+2). Lincolns Evan Lafaria (Sr.) finished his round five over par (77) placing joint 18th.
