Florida High, Peyton Johnson Win Big Bend Golf Tournament Titles

On Oct. 26, Maclay hosted the Ladies Big Bend Golf Tournament at The Golf Club of Quincy located in Quincy, FL, with 10 schools competing. Out of the 10 schools that competed, seven of them were from Leon County. The Florida High golf team placed first as a team beating Maclay by two strokes with golfer Peyton Johnson leading the Seminoles to victory placing first individually.

Peyton Johnson started her round off going two under through the first three holes birdieing hole’s two and three getting off to a great start on the front nine. Johnson stayed bogey free through the first nine, parring five out of the next six holes while birding number six, a 400-yard par 5, to go four under par heading to the back nine. After a crucial birdie at 11, Johnson found her first bogey on the 13th hole bringing her back down to three under. She bounced back with two more birdies on hole’s 15 and 18 to finish her round shooting a 68 (-5), winning the event by a margin of 13 strokes.

Team Results

Florida High won first place as a team with a total score of 343 (+51) and other notable performances from Florida High included Leah Lowe (So.) who shot an 86 (+13) and Kamryn Montgomery (So.) who shot a 93 (+20). Following the Seminoles, the Maclay golf team placed second with a total score of 345 (+53). Notable performances from the Marauders included Mollie Sprague (So.) who shot an 84 (+11), Trisha Patel (Fr.) who also shot an 84 (+11), and Addie Sprague (So.) who shot an 88 (+15). Placing third as a team, Chiles shot a 365 while placing three golfers in the top 15. Those performances included Beezy Wright (So.) shooting an 81 (+8), Kate Mathis (So.) shooting an 84 (+11), and Hailey Lamothe (Sr.) shooting a 99 (+26).
