LCSO Arrests 12-Year-Old Student for Possession of BB Gun on School Property

On Thursday, November 6, a 12-year-old Griffin Middle School student in the 6th grade was arrested for possession of a weapon on school grounds.

LCSO reported that after receiving a tip that the student may have a firearm in his backpack on campus, administrators and the School Resource Deputy contacted the student. School administrators then conducted an administrative search of the backpack and found a black metal BB gun inside the backpack. The student was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

The student has been charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon on School Grounds. The student will also face disciplinary action in accordance with the Leon County Schools Student Code of Conduct.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office urges parents and guardians to speak with their children about the serious consequences of bringing weapons to school and the importance of maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.
