Recent IRS tax filings for 2024 (see below) show that the TMH Board approved a $1.3 million annual increase for TMH CEO Mark O’Bryant in 2024 bringing his annual compensation to $3.1 million.
The IRS document addressing TMH’s financial activities for 2024 was filed on August 14, 2025.
TMH officials have indicated that the TMH Board of Directors conducts an annual evaluation, and a comprehensive executive compensation review every two years.
TMH officials – in an email to TR – stated that the increase in the 2024 compensation was related to “a one-time payout from an enhanced retirement plan.”
The IRS Form 990 labels approximately $1.4 million of the increase as “other reportable compensation” in a category called “supplemental nonqualified retirement plan.”
The IRS defines a “supplemental nonqualified retirement plan” as a plan that is not generally available to all employees but is available only to a certain class or classes of management or highly compensated employees. These plans are typically used to supplement an employee’s qualified plan or serve as an additional compensation tool for highly compensated individuals. They are not subject to the same tax-favored treatment as qualified plans and are often used to provide specialized forms of compensation to key executives or employees instead of making them partners or part owners in a company or corporation.
TMH officials, as when asked by the Tallahassee Democrat in May 2025, would not confirm the 2025 compensation.
FSU, TMH Salaries
In May of this year, the Tallahassee Democrat addressed the compensation of FSU President Richard McCullough and O’Bryant amid the negotiations between FSU and TMH related to the academic medical center.
The report noted McCullough’s annual base salary is $1.1 million and that the FSU board may award him an annual performance bonus of up to 50% of his salary earned.
The Democrat reported that “TMH declined to provide the full compensation for O’Bryant or a breakdown of his specific goals.” The report cited a 2023 tax document stating, “O’Bryant makes nearly $1.8 million a year across his base pay, nontaxable benefits, retirement, other reportable compensation and bonuses and incentives.”
“This ensures we remain competitive in attracting and retaining experienced, high-performing leadership,” said Stephanie M. Derzypolski, the hospital’s chief communications officer.
“All compensation decisions are informed by market data and closely tied to performance outcomes that reflect TMH’s mission, patient experience, quality, fiscal responsibility, and long-term strategic goals,” Derzypolski said.

Certainly a timely report after just receiving our 3% raise on this paycheck. Feels good knowing administration is still getting fairly compensated for all their hard work. I’m sure their productivity reports reflect it as well.
Wow. I can tell that myself and my TMH co-workers find that to be rather gross. Apparently the hospital loses 3-4 million a month and we are all asked to make sure we don’t get overtime even though it’s the only way we can survive. The C Suite is completely disconnected and don’t care that the vast majority of us either rely on second jobs, overtime or a wealthy spouse. This is yet again a major F you by this admin.
Wow! What about the nurses ? .. Nurses and other employees need a raise too!!!
No wonder a hamburger and coke in the cafeteria costs 15 bucks someone has to pay for that raise.
Do an irs form 990 search and look at other not for profit hospitals you will see he is way!!!!!!! Over paid leading a health system that has been a 1 and 2 star medicare ranked hospital. Guess it proved mediocrity gets you big bucks while the hard working rank and file employees get screwed
Tallahassee you all are being ripped off. TMH is breaking even and the CEO gets a raise no wonder they want to keep control of the board, they want the gravy train to keep rolling.
I’m telling you, heads are exploding today at TMH among the rank and file employees today.
And you wonder why healthcare is so expensive
How does his compensation compare to other similar revenue size hospitals?
Why can’t he just do his job for 1.5 million? Why does FSU need to give him a bonus of 50%? He’s supposed to a good job for the 1.5 million.
That’s why they lied to us and told us they didn’t have enough money for the stadium. They are too busy doling out half a million-dollar bonuses to people for doing their GD job!
I’m an alumnus and I hate FSU…They are the biggest bunch of grifters anyone has ever been fleeced by,
