On Oct. 24th, the Stanford swim team competed against No. 3 ranked Arizona State and No. 4 ranked California in a tri-meet double dual format at Stanford’s Avery Aquatic Center and California’s Spieker Aquatic Complex over the course of two days.
Tri-Meet Vs No.3 ASU and No.4 CAL
The Cardinal set the pace early on Day 1, highlighted by Chiles alumnus and freshman Ethan Ekk’s commanding victory in the 1000 free, where he posted a time of 8:42.25 in his first collegiate win. Not only was this a personal best, but Ekk also etched his name into Stanford’s record books by breaking the school record previously set by Grant Shoults in 2022. Ekk added to his performance with a second-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 3:44.78 and a fifth-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:43.64. Both performances stood as the top marks by a Stanford swimmer in each event.
Stanford ended the first day with a 125-73 lead over California and trailed Arizona State with scores of 106-90, keeping the 2024 National Champions in striking distance.
Stanford went on to beat California by a score of 205-134 but fell short of Arizona State with a final score of 134-204.
High School Accomplishments
While in Highschool at Chiles, Ekk accumulated four state titles, two in the 500 free, one in the 200 free and one in the 200 IM.
Stanfords next meet is the SMU invite against Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX on Nov. 19th
