Chiles Soccer Holds on to Beat Maclay

On Jan. 12th, the Chiles boys soccer team hosted Maclay in their second regular season match up – the first match ending in a 1-1 draw – and managed a victory on a cold and windy night.

After falling just short against the No. 1 ranked team in the nation with a score of 2-1 on Jan. 9th, Maclay looked to bounce back with a win against Chiles to secure their 9th win of the season. The Timberwolves had different plans as they outscored the marauders 1-0 in the first half and held on to advance to 8-3-1 on the season.

Chiles found the back of the net early in the first half with Sal Giove (Jr.) scoring off of a pass from Jackson Kukla (Jr.) only four minutes into the match to go up 1-0.

Maclay had multiple set pieces after the goal from Giove but could not find the equalizer in the first half. While keeping the Marauders scoreless in the first half, Chiles’ goalie had multiple clutch saves including a double save on the back end of the first half from a well hit ball from Luke Daunt (Sr.) of Maclay.

In the second half, Chiles continued to dominate the Marauders on defense keeping Maclay scoreless for the full 80 minutes ultimately winning the match 1-0. With this win, Chiles will be looking for their 9th win of the regular season against Columbia on Jan. 14th. Looking to bounce back from this loss, Maclay will play an away game against Lincoln on Jan. 14th.
