On Feb. 12, the Chiles High School tennis team defeated Leon High School in both the boys and girls matches, improving to 3-0 and 2-1 on the season, respectively. The Timberwolves won all seven positions on the boys side while the Chiles girls team won at six positions, losing the first singles position.
Boys
Chiles got off to a good start with Haralabos Stamou beating Xavier Uchino in the fifth singles position with a score of 8-6. The Timberwolves continued their success with wins in both of the doubles positions with Shawn Sun and Wesley Kunts beating Micah Olimb and Jack Winsor 8-3 at the second doubles position and Omar Mongerie and Michael Metarko beating Miles Noel and Will Marino 8-2 at the first doubles position. In the third and fourth singles positions, Chiles’ Shawn Son and Wesley Kuntz beat Jack Winsor and Will Marino with scores of 8-2 and 8-0, respectively. To finish the sweep, the Timberwolves won the top two singles positions with Omar Mongerie and Michael Metarko beating Miles Noel and Micah Climb 8-2 and 8-1 at the first and second singles positions, respectively.
Girls
Winning both of the doubles positions, Chiles’ Isabella Venclauskas and Aubrey Rodriguez beat Josie Phillips and Julia White 9-8 (9-7) at the first doubles position while Izzy Cummings and Jennifer Egan beat Allie Winsor and Jerusalem Temuari 8-6 at the second doubles position. Getting off to a good start in the singles positions, Chiles’ Cassidy Boone and Izzy Cummings beat Sophia Liu and Jerusalem Temauri in the fifth and fourth singles positions with scores of 8-1 and 8-2, respectively. Chiles continued their success with Aubrey Rodriguez and Jennifer Egan beating Allie Winsor and Josie Phillips in the third and second singles positions with scores of 8-4 and 8-3, respectively. Leon avoided the sweep with Julia White beating Isabella Venclauskas at the first singles position with a score of 8-5.
