Chiles Sweeps Leon to Claim Fifth Consecutive District Volleyball Title

Chiles continued its run of dominance in district volleyball, sweeping Leon 3-0 on Thursday night at Chiles High School to secure its fifth consecutive district title. The Timberwolves (19-7) controlled the match from the opening set, defeating the Lions (17-10) by scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-8. Chiles used a strong offensive performance and consistent play at the net to keep Leon from building momentum, finishing the championship match in straight sets.

The opening set began competitively, with the teams tied 6-6 before Chiles created separation to take a 10-7 lead behind a service run from junior Maddie Messer. Leon responded with a serving stretch of its own, cutting into the deficit and keeping the set within reach. However, the Timberwolves regained control with an offensive surge that forced a Leon timeout at 19-15. Chiles closed out the set 25-16, with junior Harmoni Meeks recording a block to secure the final point.

Chiles carried that momentum into the second set, opening with a 5-1 advantage. The Timberwolves continued to apply pressure as Leon struggled to slow the attack, prompting a timeout with the Lions trailing 12-3. Chiles extended its lead to 19-8 after a block from sophomore Reagan Giles forced another Leon timeout. The Timberwolves maintained their advantage and finished the set 25-11 with an ace, moving within one set of the district championship.

The third set proved even more decisive. Chiles jumped out to an 11-1 lead and continued to widen the gap, reaching a 19-5 advantage as it moved closer to completing the sweep. Leon managed a few points during the set, including a set dump from Leon’s Riley Perezluha, but the Timberwolves remained in control. Chiles ultimately closed out the match 25-8 after a Leon error, completing the straight-set victory and securing another district title.

Senior Loganne Abernathy led the Timberwolves’ attack with 13 kills on 25 attempts, finishing with a .520 hitting percentage and no attacking errors. Sophomore Reagan Giles, junior Sterling Carlile, senior Avery Banks and Harmoni Meeks each contributed four kills.

Riley Boykin directed the offense with 17 assists, while junior Harper Whitaker added seven assists. At the service line, sophomore Channing Savoy led Chiles with four aces, and Boykin and Abernathy recorded two apiece. Defensively, Messer led the Timberwolves with 10 digs, followed by Boykin with seven and Carlile with six. Abernathy also contributed five total blocks, while Giles and Meeks added four and three, respectively.

The victory extended Chiles’ district championship streak to five consecutive seasons. With a decisive performance across all three sets, the Timberwolves defended their home court and finished the district final with a commanding win over Leon.
