The Market District, located in North Tallahassee off of Thomasville Road, is home to well over 150 businesses, most of which are locally owned. Over the next two months, at least three new businesses will be opening their doors with some excited new options.
On Market Street, the new location for Island Wings and Vertigo Burger will be completed soon and the restaurants should be serving customers in March.
Vertigo Burger, which has a location on Lafayette Street, posted on their website that “we hope to start making heads spin in early March. We will offer the same great burgers and fries that you have been getting at our Lafayette Street location.”
Island Wings, which is a franchise headquartered in Destin, will be owned by a local restaurateur and is also scheduled to open in March. The restaurant will have outdoor seating overlooking Market Street and will offer wings that are baked not fried!
Island Wings advertises that there “are no deep fryers in our kitchens and everything we serve is baked, steamed or grilled, never fried! Our menu is packed with flavor, not grease! ”
Island Wings currently has locations in Auburn, Gulf Shores, and Mobile Alabama and Destin, Florida.
Down the street from these two restaurants in the location anchored by Chico’s at the corner of Market Street and Maclay Blvd., Christoff’s Bistro + Wine Bar will be opening in the next month or so. The new venture is affiliated with The Wine Loft of Tallahassee which opened for business in Midtown back in 2009.
Christoff’s will feature North Florida fare and an expansive and varied selection of wine and craft beer. TR was told menu options will rotate often depending on the availability of local seafood, venison, rabbit and quail.
