On Wednesday the Tallahassee City Commission will hold a public hearing to approve a recommendation for allocation of a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) award. The FY16 combined allocation of the grant for the City of Tallahassee and Leon County is $147,440.
The federal JAG program requires the governing body of each eligible jurisdiction to provide an opportunity for public review and comment. The Leon County Board of County Commissioners approved the application during their September 13, 2016 board meeting.
The joint City/County allocation team recommended an allocation of $70,000 for the Juvenile Assessment Center Booking Unit, $38,720 for LCSO equipment, and $38,720 for TPD equipment.
The City of Tallahassee Police Department has proposed spending the grant on two canine replacements used for drug interdiction ($15,710), one night rifle scope ($9,200), five ballistic vests ($8,410), and three pole cameras ($5,400).
The Leon County Sheriff’s Office will spend the grant on thirty body camera’s ($38,720) and the DISC Village Juvenile Assessment Center ($70,000).
