Tallahassee Reports has learned from sources that Edison owner Adam Corey had discussions about a job for a former Edison employee with city manager Rick Fernandez.
In 2016, when the discussions took place, Corey was a vendor with the City of Tallahassee and a registered lobbyists representing multiple interests before the City Commission.
In January 2017, the former Edison employee at the center of the discussion, Eddie Kring, was hired into a position that was only advertised to people in the city’s communications department where Kring had previously secured a part-time job.
Kring was hired into the full-time position by the head of communications department, Alison Faris, who reports directly to city manager Rick Fernandez.
The discussions of possible employment would have come during 2016 when City Manager Fernandez received a $5,000 “owners discount” from the Edison on a catering event for a member of his family.
Tallahassee Reports published a story about the catering discount which took place in March 2016.
Both the Florida Commission on Ethics and the city’s Independent Ethics Board is investigating the discount and the hiring of Eddie Kring.
Also in 2016, Tallahassee Reports confirmed that city manager Rick Fernandez received a number of football tickets directly from Adam Corey for exclusive seats in a private box at Doak Campbell stadium.
Sources say the tickets were distributed to city employees and members of the city manager’s family.
Sources also say that the alleged undercover FBI agents bought several season tickets from Mr. Corey during the 2016 FSU season.
The Florida Commission on Ethics is also investigating the the ticket issue.
This latest revelation adds to the connections between city manager Rick Fernandez and Adam Corey, who is a central player in the federal investigation of public corruption.
If you want bigger news start interviewing administrators in Leon County. See who received a phone call from a principal friend of Rocky Hannah during the election that told them if they didn’t switch and support Rocky he’d remember them if he won.
All this now investigate Scott Hansen who at Rocky Hanna’s request called administrators during the last few weeks of campaign and told them to back off support for Pons if Rocky wins he would remember who backed off.
“Hey, Alison, it’s Rick. A friend of mine is helping this guy find a job. Take care or him for me, Ok?” And Alison, keep it under the radar. Thanks”
City Manager condensing posturing requires him to be fired! He needs to realize he is not indispensable! We as voters needs to demonstrate the power we have at the next election cycle (2018). In fact, all incumbents need to update their curriculum vitae! Let’s clean house! Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
My hope is that COT officials and their associated cronies have been at this crooked game so long that over the years they’ve become very sloppy or brazen (or both) and left many big areas and items of inarguable evidence for the FBI investigators. The more indisputable evidence that can be presented by prosecutors, the more likely that convictions and serious jail time will be handed out to the guilty officials and cronies. That’s my hope, anyway. A thorough housecleaning and serious jail-time punishment for the corruption may go a long way to dissuade future COT elected officials from ignoring the voters, city and state laws, and the city charter.
That’s exactly how it’s gonna shake out Mike.
Because Gillum was on Hillary’ Veep short list and our local suspects believed the polls showing that Hillary landslide.
Therefor after Hillary’ corination they all would be untouchable for another 4 – 8 years.
Just for a moment imagine how sad our dirty local usual suspects felt on election night.
Corey is a young wealthy businessman who associates with corrupt elected officials and everyone expects Corey to ask government officials for favors like this. For Corey this was just another routine aspect in another routine day of doing business in the dirty Tallahassee political climate.
Fernandez on the other hand as an elected official is not allowed to do these kinds of favors in a city government capacity run by honest individuals with a voting public that holds their elected officials to high standards.
Unfortunately in Tallahassee we have dishonest elected officials due to one of the stupidest base of voters on the planet who endorse this type of dishonesty time and time again with their votes.
But neither Corey or Fernandez did anything the FBI is interested in. It’s just unethical and a clear peek inside the inner workings of one of the most corrupt government entities ever.
The only consequence here is that Fernandez has disgraced the integrity of his family and church (if he is involved with a church). Well…unless someone files an ethics complaint.
“Fernandez on the other hand as an elected official”???
When was he elected?
Thank you sir. My bad.

If I were under an FBI investigation, the last thing I’d want to do is have to fire three dozen of my underlings.
That’s a lot of potential stool pigeons.
Tallahassee’s CHICKENS have come home to roost! And the chicken coops are located at The Edison, All Saint’s Street, E. Jennings Street……….need I go on? It is the “usual suspects”.
why did you post this story without corroborating evidence? I don’t understand the logic of such a move
How do you know there wasn’t?
I have no idea if there wasn’t, that is why I am asking why they posted the story without including it
Often times journalists use sources that do not want to be identified but have important information relevant to a story. It is up to the journalist to measure the credibility of the source. This has happened a number of times with local media outlets with the ongoing FBI investigation. The Tallahassee Democrat has used “sources who would know” to advance a story. Also, sources are used by high profile papers like the NYT and the Washington Post.
This is what we have done. We are very confident in our sources and we know that this information will be corroborated in the upcoming ethics investigation of Mr. Fernandez.
that’s a perfectly good explanation. I appreciate you taking the time to respond
Sir, exactly how many independent and corroborating sources did you use? Thank you in advance.
Two.
Chicago’s pols are starting to look like pikers, compared to Tallahassee’s.
