The Tallahassee Police Department has released the following information on the recent shooting incident in Killearn Estates.

The Tallahassee Police Department has made an arrest in the shooting incident which occurred on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at approximately 11:24 p.m. in the 3400 block of Gardenview Way. Investigators arrested Chase Blommel and Austin Ferriby for the shooting. Investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit were able to link the shooting incident to a vehicle burglary at the Vape Shop located at 1373 Mahan Drive and a residential burglary in the 3400 block of Whitney Drive East. Additional charges were filed on the arrestees in the burglary cases.
Investigators learned one resident of the Gardenview Way home was known to both arrestees and had a prior friendship with Ferriby, which ended several months ago after an argument. This same resident was the target in the shooting on Gardenview Way.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered a vehicle burglary occurred at the Vape Shop earlier in the day on December 8, 2019. Investigators learned Blommel burglarized the vehicle which was parked there. The resident of Gardenview Way confronted Blommel about the vehicle burglary over the phone. A short time after the verbal altercation, Blommel and Ferriby drove past the home on Gardenview Way and fired gunshots at the occupied home. The intended target was not at home at the time of the shooting.
Investigators then became aware of a residential burglary which occurred in the 3400 block of Whitney Drive East on December 10, 2019. During the burglary an AR15 and a 9mm handgun were stolen. In the course of this extensive investigation, investigators were able to link Ferriby to the burglary on Whitney Drive East.
Ferriby and Blommel were taken into custody by TPD’s Career Criminal Unit and transported to TPD for questioning. Search warrants were obtained for both Ferriby and Blommel’s residences. Subsequently, firearms from the burglary on Whitney Drive East, were recovered at both Ferriby’s and Blommel’s residences. Additionally, the firearm suspected to have been used in the Gardenview Way shooting was located at Blommel’s residence along with a small quantity of cocaine.
After consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit established probable cause to charge Chase Blommel and Austin Ferriby with the Gardenview Way shooting. In addition, Ferriby was charged with armed burglary of a residence and dealing in stolen property when he sold a stolen gun to Blommel. Blommel purchased a firearm from Ferriby, which he knew came from the residential burglary on Whitney Drive East. Blommel was additionally charged with the vehicle burglary, dealing in stolen property and possession of cocaine.
Blommel and Ferriby were transported to the Leon Detention Facility for processing on December 12, 2019. TPD would like to thank the United States Marshal’s Service and LCSO for their assistance with this case.
