May Unemployment Rate Hits 8.8% in Leon County

The latest employment information shows that Leon County added 2,205 jobs in May. One year ago Leon County lost 217 jobs. The unemployment rate in increased to 8.8% in May from 8.2% in April.

One year ago the unemployment rate was 2.9%.

The number of people working in May, 2020 decreased when compared to last year. The Leon County Jobs Report, listed above, indicates that 127,719 people were working in May 2020. This is 23,361 less than the 151,080 reported working in May last year.

Also, the labor force decreased when compared to one year ago. The May, 2020 workforce was 140,009 compared to 155,518 last year.

At the state-level, 168,000 jobs were added in May after losing 1,707,000 jobs in May, 2020. The unemployment rate increased from 13.5% in April to 14.3% in May.
