The weekly COVID report, ending January 24th, shows increases in new cases, hospitalizations, and the positivity rate.
The Numbers
The Leon County 7-day average (yellow-line) of reported COVID cases moved from 213 cases on January 17th to 219 cases on January 24th, a 2.8% increase.
The Leon County 7-day average (yellow-line) of reported COVID hospitalizations changed from 129 on January 17th to 135 on January 24th, a 4.7% increase.
The Leon County 7-day average (yellow line) COVID positivity rate changed from 7.4% on January 17th to 8.2% on January 24th, a 10.8% increase.

Any correlation between hospitalizations and first dose COVID vaccines?
The hospitalizations are a bit puzzling. The overall state hospitalizations have been trending down for two weeks and never reached their July/August peaks. However Leon county is now nearly 60% higher than the hospitalizations were back in the summer.
I am curious why the larger increase in hospitalizations? Are these people with more comorbidities? Are these people not seeking medical care until the virus has progressed – so they are not getting early treatment? What kind of population? More elderly, economic disparities, specific outbreak (such as nursing home)?
But the mask mandate from March was supposed to flatten the curve!?
