LCS Approves Construction Items at May 25th Board Meeting

At the May 25th Leon County School Board meeting, officials addressed the following construction items.

The School Board approved a 30-day extension to Good News Outreach for the removal of portable #99-301 from the former location of Pace Secondary School. If the City approves the permits to demolish the current building, then the portable will be relocated to Maryland Oaks. Good News Outreach is responsible for all cost incurred for the relocation of the portable.
The release of retainage, in the amount of $56,824.22, was approved for Allstate Construction, Inc. related to Rickards High School. The project, phase 4C, demolition of buildings three and five, and site work/utilities for Rickards High School, is complete.
At R. Frank Nims Middle School, the demolition and removal of portable #99-302 was approved during the Board meeting. The portable is declared surplus, as it is no longer needed to meet capacity requirements and is found to be structurally unsound.
The Board approved the construction of a new digital marquee sign for Cobb Middle School. The $20,905 project will be completed by a local Florida company, Bill’s Signs and Services, Inc. The PTO raised over $19,000 for the project and only $930 derives from district funds.
Principal Joseph Burgess’ request for a new sound system for the Chiles High School gymnasium was approved at the School Board meeting. The project is funded through Chiles High School FF&E funds, and totals $11,568.19. Principal Burgess indicated the need for a new system as the current sound system was installed in 1999 and has malfunctioned, causing staff to bring in portable speakers for athletic events and pep rallies.
The Board approved the $600 agreement for Southern Earth Sciences to perform asbestos consulting services for Riley Elementary School. Southern Earth Sciences will use phase contrast microscopy (PCM) testing to monitor the air and for final clearance.
The School Board approved to prequalify contractors for a one-year period allowing them to bid on LCSB construction projects. The contractors include Aire Mechanical & Service Corp, Allstate Construction, Inc., Apache Asphalt, Inc., Jenkins Roofing, Inc., Miller Sheet Metal, Inc., and Streamline Roofing and Construction, Inc.
