TR Exclusive: Review meeting briefs from Wednesday’s Tallahassee Commission meeting. During the meeting, the City introduced a Foreclosure Registry ordinance requiring the mortgagee of any real property subject to foreclosure to register that property with the City.
Leon County Schools has removed Lawton Chiles High School football coach Kevin Pettis after an independent investigation. The district has said that Pettis will be reassigned. Pettis issued a statement exclusively to WCTV saying, “feel that this was a targeted narrative against myself and Chiles High, similar to the investigation against principal Burgess in 2021. Rocky and the district have handled my case and Mr. Burgess’ previous case different from any other disciplinary matters in the County. I do not agree with Rocky’s decision and I am looking into my options and next steps.“
The Leon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting after a nine-year-old was shot along Cathedral Drive. Someone outside the home fired into the home and hit the child while the child was in a bedroom. The child was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare for treatment. LCSO is still investigating.
Monticello Police are searching for witnesses after a shooting in Monticello. The shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m. on North Rhodes Street. A man was discovered on the ground bleeding and succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital. Investigators from MPD, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, FDLE, and Florida Highway Patrol are assisting in the case as they conduct interviews.

Florida Congresswoman Kat Cammack is calling on Congress to categorize fertilizer as a critical resource. Cammack introduced legislation classifying phosphate and potash as critical minerals to national security. “A nation that cannot feed itself is not secure. Without the necessary inputs to feed, clothe and fuel our nation, we’re leaving our food and national security up to our adversaries,” Cammack said.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez files paperwork to run for president. Suarez enters an already crowded GOP with former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the frontrunners followed by a number of candidates polling with much lower percentages. Suarez and DeSantis have opposed each other on numerous fronts including over COVID mandates, DeSantis’ going after Disney, and in 2018 when Suarez admitted to voting for Andrew Gillum.
