LOCAL NEWS

During the rescheduled Leon County School Board meeting on Thursday, elected officials addressed a number of issues, including policies related to weapons, attendance, and homeless students.

One man is dead after a shooting at the Circle K at the intersection of North Monroe and Sharer Road. The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. Friday and it is still considered an open and active investigation. 

Crews in Leon County began storm debris pickup Friday, a week after three tornadoes swept through the local area. County officials believe it could take up to a month for storm debris cleanup to be completed around the capital city. As of Friday morning, crews have picked up 10,000 cubic yards of debris which they said is about half of what was collected last year after Hurricane Idalia.

LOCAL SPORTS NEWS

Tenth-ranked Florida State will be the No. 5-seed in next week’s ACC Championship at Truist Field in Charlotte, North Carolina, facing 4-seed Virginia and 9-seed Georgia Tech. The Noles’ game against the Yellow Jackets will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. and the game against the Cavaliers will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. 

The 15th-seeded Florida State softball team (46-14) punched its ticket into Super Regionals with a 10-4 victory over Auburn (29-21-1) on Sunday night at the Seminole Softball Complex. The Seminoles advanced to the Super Regional round for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons and scored double-digit runs in the tournament for the first time since 2019.

FLORIDA NEWS

The Florida Department of Commerce on Friday released a report that estimated a 3.3 percent jobless rate, representing 361,000 Floridians qualified as unemployed in mid-April. Get the details.

Senate President Kathleen Passidomo apprised lawmakers in a memo sent on Thursday that Florida’s property insurance market, while showing signs of stabilization, still requires concerted efforts to ensure these advancements benefit homeowners effectively.

  1. The intersection of N. Monroe and Sharer RD is a clear & present danger to Tallahassee. That motel (is it still Red Roof Inn?) is a hub for human traffiking, prostitution, drugs. and shootings which often spill over into the Circle K parking lot.
    This crime magnet cannot be allowed to exist any longer. Bulldoze it to the ground. Our guests and citizens will find pleanty of safe lodgeing and mini-marts much safer to patrionise.

  2. Trump will hurt local Republicans in Tally bad. Laury Cox and Cory Simon were nice to have while it lasted. Another nominee would have been better for us
