Rudy Ferguson, a candidate for Tallahassee City Commission and challenger to Commissioner Jack Porter, filed a complaint with the Florida Democratic Party accusing officials with the Leon County Democratic Executive Committee (LDEC) – including Chairman Ryan Ray – of siding against him in the Porter race.
On Thursday, June 27, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) arrested one person following the fatal shooting that occurred on Jan. 1, 2024, in the 600 block of Osceola Street.
A man was killed in a hit-and-run early Thursday morning on Bannerman Road, according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived on scene in the area of Bannerman Road and Blue Smoke Drive after a call came in regarding the incident around 8 a.m. Thursday. A man was found on the side of the road once deputies arrived, according to LCSO.

Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday vetoed a measure aimed at regulating vacation rentals, saying the proposal would create “bureaucratic red tape” for local officials. Oversight of vacation rentals for years has been a thorny issue for the Legislature, as advertising for properties on platforms such as Airbnb has ballooned.
Gov. Ron DeSantis highlighted a series of accelerated transportation infrastructure projects on Thursday, noting the state’s commitment to improving roads and reducing congestion. Standing alongside agency leaders, DeSantis detailed the allocation of $14.5 billion for 946 transportation projects across Florida in the 2024-25 state budget. These projects include the construction and maintenance of over 140 new lane miles and the resurfacing of numerous roadways, with $5 billion dedicated specifically to new highways and $1.8 billion for road resurfacing and pothole repairs.
