Chiles Girls Soccer Triumphs Over Florida High on Cold, Rainy Night

On Jan 10, the top two ranked girl soccer teams in Leon County faced off at Chiles High School amid heavy rain and cold temperatures. Both Chiles (11-2) and Florida High (9-2-3) looked to cap off impressive seasons and build momentum into the postseason.

The Timberwolves struck first with a goal from Cadence West (Sr.) to put Chiles up 1-0 in the first half. Florida High could not capitalize on any successful runs on offense and went into halftime scoreless. Although their offensive production was lacking, their defense, led by goalkeeper Julia Robinson (Fr.), did a good job to keep the Seminoles within striking distance during the second half.

The Florida High back line held off the Timberwolves at times, but their offense could not find the equalizer. It wasn’t long into the second half that Chiles had success on offense scoring two goals from Jada Bartusek (Jr.) and Reagan Wolfe (Sr.) respectively. The match ended 3-0 favoring the Timberwolves.

Chiles hopes to finish the season on a five-game win streak with one more game in the regular season against Lincoln at home on Jan. 15. Florida High has two games left in the regular season, against Leon on Jan. 14 and Columbia to end the season on Jan. 17.
