Chiles Boys Soccer Defeats Lincoln in District Semifinal

On Jan. 29, Chiles hosted a 5A District 1 semifinal match against the Lincoln Trojans. The Timberwolves are seeded 2nd in the district tournament while the Trojans are seeded right behind them at 3rd. This is both teams first match of the tournament as they received byes in the first round.

During their last 2 matchups during the regular season, their first match ended in a 1-1 draw and Chiles won the second match 1-0. Unlike the matches during the regular season, this match contained much more offense, notably from the Chiles front 7.

The Timberwolves started off strong with multiple runs that were stopped short by Lincoln keeper Noah Glunt (Sr.). As the first half progressed, Chiles struck first with a header inside the box from Jamie Maloy (Sr.) that found the back of the net. Not long after Maloy’s goal, Christian Heath (So.) scored a goal of his own hitting the top left corner from the edge of the box putting the Timberwolves up 2-0.

Trying to make a comeback, Lincoln found their first goal with about 4 minutes to go to make it 2-1.

The Timberwolves countered fast with a tap in goal from Salvitore Giove (So.) as the half expired to make it 3-1.

In the second half, Chiles continued to create chances while Lincoln was having a hard time getting past the Timberwolves back line. Chiles tacked on two more goals in the second half with Salvitore Giove securing a brace for the match after a successful penalty kick and Spencer Wolfe (Sr.) found the back of the net off of a rebound from the Lincoln keeper.

With the 5-1 win, Chiles will play the highly ranked Arnold Marlins in the district finals on Jan. 30.
