An estimated 7,415 first-time unemployment claims were filed in Florida during the week that ended June 14, according to a U.S. Department of Labor report released Wednesday. The total was down from an estimated 8,786 claims during the previous week.
Florida has averaged 6,377 claims a week since the start of the year. Nationally, 245,000 claims were filed last week. During the past four weeks, the national average is 245,500 claims. The national unemployment rate in May was 4.2 percent. Florida’s unemployment rate, which was 3.7 percent in April, will be updated Friday by the state Department of Commerce.
