The Chiles High School girls soccer state championship run came to an in the state finals on Saturday, February 28th, with a 3-0 loss to Lourdes Academy in Deland, Florida.
The 8th ranked team nationally going into the finals, Lourdes Academy (17-3) found the back of the net first going up 1-0 as both teams went into halftime.
The Chiles defense could not contain Lourdes’ heavy powered offence as the Coyotes found two more goals in the second half finishing the match with a score of 3-0 and claiming a state title. Although Chiles fell short, the team capped off a highly successful season as FHSAA Class 5A state runners-up.
Previously, on Feb. 27, the Chiles team (15-4-1) beat North Fort Meyers (17-4-2) 1-0 in the FHSAA 5A State semifinals at Spec Martin Stadium in Deland, to advance to the state title match. It was a defensive battle throughout, as Chiles scored the match’s only goal when Kendall Sadberry (So.) fired a long shot from the top of the box with 37 minutes remaining in the first half. The Timberwolves defense stood strong for the rest of the match, giving them a shot at a state title.
