Chiles Flag Football Heads into Spring Break 8-1

The Chiles flag football team is currently on a five-game win streak with an 8-1 record and listed 10th in the MaxPreps state rankings. The Timberwolves’ only loss came on Mar. 6 to a highly ranked Ponte Vedra team with a final score of 25-6. Chiles sits at the top of the Leon County rankings with a rating of 20.86. Florida High, the second ranked team, currently has a rating of 13.58.

Chiles and Florida High matched up against each other on Mar. 7 with the Timberwolves shutting out the Seminoles with a final score of 13-0. Chiles quarterback Kendall Sadberry had 14 completions for 126 yards and two touchdown passes. On the receiving end of both touchdown passes was Chiles wide out Gracie Gerteisen. Gerteisen had two catches for 23 yards.

Although the Timberwolves will only have six games left in the regular season after the break, they will matchup against three teams that are currently ranked in the top 40 in the state. They will play 39th ranked Niceville on Apr. 1, 28th ranked Choctawhatchee on Apr. 10, and close their regular season with an away game against 17th ranked Clay.

Stat Leaders

At quarterback, Kendall Sadberry has handled the bulk of the workload through the midseason stretch, completing 101 of 155 passes for 974 yards and 16 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions, posting a 108.9 QB rating. Benny Powell has also provided valuable production, totaling 450 passing yards and 6 touchdowns with only 1 interception, averaging 11.8 yards per attempt with a long of 65 yards. Lainey Crisafulli has contributed efficiently in her opportunities as well, completing 25 of 36 passes for 168 yards, recording a 69.4 percent completion rate.

In the run game, Sadberry has been a key contributor, carrying the ball 48 times for 280 yards and 4 touchdowns, averaging 5.8 yards per carry with a long run of 30 yards. Crisafulli has also added production on the ground with 36 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown.

In the passing game, Gracie Gerteisen, Kaitlyn Fagan, and Ellis Smeltzer have each played important roles through the midseason stretch. Gerteisen has totaled 21 receptions for 258 yards and 6 touchdowns, averaging 12.3 yards per catch with a long of 50 yards. Fagan has made the most of limited appearances, recording 9 catches for 203 yards and 2 touchdowns while averaging an impressive 22.6 yards per reception, including a long of 45 yards. Smeltzer has also been a steady contributor, leading the group with 26 receptions for 183 yards and adding 2 touchdowns, with a long of 27 yards.
