Mayor Gillum was in Pittsburgh for People for American Way Event

Mayor Andrew Gillum has consistently refused to answer questions about his recent trip to Pennsylvania where he had an official meeting with the Mayor of Pittsburgh on January 30, 2015.

Due to this lack of cooperation, TR has had to turn to anonymous sources, public record requests, and social media to seek answers to questions.

After being told the trip to Pittsburgh was an official trip to discuss children issues with the Mayor of Pittsburgh, Mayor Gillum’s Office reversed course. Gillum’s office most recently has said the trip was not City funded, even though the meeting that took place was on the official calendar of the Mayor of Pittsburgh.

Now a facebook post, discovered by an anonymous source,  has provided more answers.

A post on the facebook page of the Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network shows that Mayor Gillum was in Pittsburgh to pose for a picture accepting a certificate memorializing the Pittsburgh City Council’s vote  proclaiming YEO  Network Weekend in the City of Pittsburgh.

Mayor Gillum is the Executive Director of the The Young Elected Officials Network and it is described as a leadership program on the People for American Way website. Mayor Gillum is paid by the People for American Way Foundation.

More questions remain unanswered.

Did the City of Tallahassee fund any part of the trip? If not, who did?

Why were City of Tallahassee vendors in Pittsburgh the same time as Mayor Gillum and his Chief of Staff, Dustin Daniels?

And finally, why has Mayor Gillum been so reluctant to answer questions about the trip?

TR has a number of public records request pending with the City of Tallahassee and will provide more information when it becomes available.

  1. Byron Dobson is reporting on the front page headline at the Tallahassee Democrat news about Sean Pittman and it’s not about what he was doing in Pittsburgh with the mayor & company.

I guess the TD is going to continue to be the PR rep for the usual suspects and any hope of watchdog reporting is lost.

  2. It will be interesting to see if expense reports show any of this trip was billed to the taxpayers.

Why would his “Chief of Staff” need to attend if this was not City business? Who pays his “Chief of Staff” salary? Hopefully not the taxpayers!

  3. Well this is no surprise to the independent thinker. This entire affair was less stealth than the most fierce hurricane tHar has ever touched the Florida coastline. I predict that this guy will be even more corrupt than the last mayor.
