Mayor’s Office Timesheet Conflicts With City’s Payroll Department

On Friday, Tallahassee Reports submitted a public record request to the City of Tallahassee seeking payroll records for Dustin Daniels, the Chief of Staff for Mayor Gillum.

The issue is whether our not the City paid for Mr. Daniels and Mayor Gillum to take a trip to meet with the Mayor of Pittsburgh on January 3oth.

Both Mayor Gillum and Mr. Daniels were in Pittsburgh on January 30th, 2015.

Initially,  TR was told it was an official trip, but after seeking expense reports, was told it was not City funded. The meeting was listed as an official meeting on the calendar of the Mayor of Pittsburgh.

TR has subsequently reported that Mayor Gillum was in Pittsburgh to attend an event for The People for the American Way – the current employer of Mayor Gillum and former employer of Dustin Daniels.

The payroll report provided to TR by the City of Tallahassee shows that Mr. Daniels was paid by the City on January 30th, 2015.

The report shows that Dustin Daniels took no personal leave in January. The report can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

A City of Tallahassee employee within the payroll department told TR that information used in the payroll report is data entered by the department of the employee. In Mr. Daniels’ case, this would be the Mayor’s Office.

The city employee told TR that based on the data entered by the Mayor’s Office, Mr. Daniels received City of Tallahassee compensation for working on January 30, 2015.

However, a document provided by the Mayor’s Office, which was signed by Mayor Andrew Gillum and Dustin Daniels, shows that Mr. Daniels took eight hours of personal time on January 30th. The signatures were not dated.

The information contained in the Mayor’s Office report is in conflict with the report from the City of Tallahassee’s payroll department.

TR contacted the Mayor’s Office several times, but no one would answer any questions.

This is not the first time that the Mayor’s Office has provided information to TR that is not consistent with other public records.

TR requested the Mayor Andrew Gillum’s calendar for January, 2015 and no meeting with the Mayor of Pittsburgh was entered on January 30th, 2015.

Mayor Gillum’s calendar provided to TR was in conflict with the public calendar for the Mayor of Pittsburgh, which showed an official meeting with the City of Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum on January 30th, 2015.

TR will continue to investigate.

  1. All records of this trip, the billing, the meetings, the relationship between the Mayor and his outside position with this organization, his refusal to comment repeatedly, need further investigation, as do other prior trips, associations, etc. This is just the tip.

  2. This is about the most obvious attempt cover up and scandal Tallahassee has ever seen. You caught him. The TD made no effort to cover this story, there is obvious misuse of public funds and records, lying, and corruption beyond belief. I see a recall or arrest in young Andrew’s future. Hopefully, jail time as well.

  3. Well finally! It took EIGHT DAYS for Byron Dobson to report the baloney that says taxpayers did not pay for the trip (junket).

I guess it took eight days to get their story contrived and juggle accounts and documents to cover themselves. Unbelievable.

  4. The current City “ethics officer” can be reached through . Be aware however that she reports to the City attorney and is not independent. You will not likely get a helpful response.

  5. Excellent reporting TR! Would be very interested to see any city related credit card statement the major and/or his assistant may have for transactions while in Philadelphia. How was the airplane trip paid? Any cab/limo service to/from the airport?

    Keep at it and thanks!

  6. Is Byron Dobson the new Bob Gabordi? The Tallahassee Democrat seems to be not only ignoring this, not asking questions, not investigating, BUT is puffing up the PR on one of the participants on this junket, Sean Pittman.

Why was Sean Pittman and Adam Corey in Pittsburgh at the same time? Day SEVEN and “Silence is Golden” at the TD.

    Good job Tallahassee Reports!
