Leon County Employment Surges, 4,141 Jobs Added in September

Consistent with previous years, Leon county employment surged in September. The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity reported that Leon county added 4,141 jobs. That is a three percent increase over the number of jobs reported in August.

At the state level, Florida added 67,000 jobs which is less than a 1% increase over the number of jobs recorded in August 2015.

The significant increase is welcome relief during a year that has been characterized by significant decreases in employment.

For the year, Leon county has added a total of 349 jobs. During this month last year,  Leon county was up 5,803 jobs for the year.

While the increase is good news, the trends for the last three years indicates jobs will decline from October through December. If this is the case this year, Leon County, due to job losses during the first six months of the year, will record a net decrease in jobs for 2015.
