Ken Sukhia Announces Run for the 2nd Congressional District

Former U.S. Attorney Ken Sukhia formally announced Tuesday that he will run for a newly redrawn U.S. House seat held by Democratic Congresswoman Gwen Graham. Mr. Sukhia launched his campaign for the 2nd Congressional District of Florida at the the Ponce De Leon Park across from the Federal Bankruptcy Courthouse.

Sukhia said he chose the location of his announcement “because as you may know, our country is currently over 19 trillion dollars in debt.”

The growing federal debt was one of several issues Sukhia mentioned in his remarks to more than 70 people, which included fighting terrorism, preserving the dignity of human life, fighting Obamacare, and repairing the nation’s economy.

Sukhia also stressed the importance of preserving individual freedoms and rights, especially the Second Amendment, saying “our founders had a reason to include the freedom to bear arms as a fundamental right guaranteed by our Constitution.”

In 2009, Sukhia joined Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum in challenging the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act.

“If you send me to Washington I will do all in my power to repeal Obamacare and to help restore the free market competition to lower costs and get the government out of the healthcare business,” said Sukhia.

As the US attorney for North Florida appointed by President George H.W. Bush, Sukhia fought for Florida’s Parental Notice of Abortion Act in trial against Planned Parenthood.

Sukhia enters a GOP primary race that includes Neal Dunn, a Panama City surgeon who has raised more than $700,000, and Mary Thomas, a lawyer at the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, who has raised approximately $300,000.

The new redistricting plan makes the 2nd Congressional District heavily tilted against Democrats.

  1. Ken Sukhia is the real deal. I have attended church and small fellowship group with Ken and his wife Susan for several years. Ken is a conservative who will remain true to his Christian values and to the commitments he makes. He is exactly what is needed in Washington.
