Tallahassee Reports Expands Print Edition, Adds Award Winning Reporter

Tallahassee Reports, a locally owned newspaper with a mission of providing investigative reporting and community news, announced they are expanding their monthly print addition to two times a month and are also adding an award winning reporter.

Kathy Stewart, TR’s publisher, said “the time is right for expansion. Our original investigative reporting and community news articles over the last two years have generated increasing interest. We see an opportunity to grow the business with people who are passionate about issues in their neighborhoods, schools and local government.”

Ms. Stewart also said, “Our expansion will  provide affordable advertising opportunities for small businesses. Also, our reach and distribution will create additional business opportunities.

Tallahassee Reports Adds Award Winning Reporter

Karen Murphy, an award-winning journalist who covered the North Florida and South Georgia area while working for the Thomasville Times-Enterprise, has joined Tallahassee Reports.

In her previous position, Ms. Murphy provided investigative, feature and business reporting. She won a 2016 Georgia Press Association Award for feature writing and was part of the news team that recently earned awards for overall excellence and excellent local coverage from the Georgia Press Association.

Ms. Murphy said, “Tallahassee Reports made people sit up and take notice a few years ago when they burst onto the Tallahassee news scene, taking on issues other local media wouldn’t cover. I have admired their investigative reporting and cheered them on. When I decided to leave the Thomasville Times-Enterprise to start freelance writing at home in Tallahassee, I jumped at the chance to work with Steve and his wife, Kathy, as they enter this new phase of Tallahassee Reports’ evolution and growth.”

Steve Stewart, TR’s executive editor,  said “Karen’s experience and background will be an invaluable asset moving forward. Karen has already helped TR drive the discussion on a number of important issues facing our community.” You can read Ms. Murphy’s TR articles here.

Ms. Murphy is married with two children and lives in Tallahassee.

TR’s Future

Tallahassee Reports began as an online blog in 2009 and added a print edition in 2013. On TR’s future, Ms. Stewart said, “across the country, more and more corporate owned newspapers are failing to address the local needs of communities. Independent and locally owned newspapers are on the rise and TR plans on taking advantage of the numerous opportunities available in Tallahassee.”

  1. Steve & Kathy-

I know you do printing on paper for a living.
    You’re known for premium work.
So you have a mindset that wants you to put everything on paper.
That is good, for a product that is handled over and over.

For news? Investigative reporting with fast-breaking updates?
Nope. Keep your focus on the content.
Everyone is online. Everyone. is. Online.

Trying to put news content on paper is a lost cause. It’s old school…
It scatters your effort into a sideline away from your investigations.

I would so like your limited resources (time & money) to be spent on content.
Reconsider the printed version. It’s just not where it is at, anymore.

Keep up the good work! And Welcome to Karen Murphy!

    Hurray for Tallahassee Reports!

  2. Thats GREAT! Can we now look at bringing back some of our award winning experienced and wise Democrat photographers too…. even if on a per event basis?
We miss seeing those INCREDIBLE photos that our phones cannot possibly capture….
    Like
Mike Ewen , Phil Sears, Mark Wallheiser and others we truly miss?

We love their incredible photos of Sports, State wide and Community affairs!!

  3. It is great to see honest reporting. Thanks for getting the truth out there first and accurately. You get my vote and support!

  4. TR should get a Pulitzer Prize for its reporting on the City. You get my nomination. Keep up the good work.
