Florida Commission on Ethics Finds Probable Cause with Complaint Against Dustin Daniels

Jennings DePriest has told Tallahassee Reports that the Florida Commission on Ethics has found probable cause with regards to a complaint he filed against Dustin Daniels.

Daniels is the former Chief of Staff for Mayor Andrew Gillum and former Tallahassee mayoral candidate.

The complaint was based on reporting by Tallahassee Reports that revealed Mayor Andrew Gillum’s office spent approximately $5,000 in city tax revenue with a partisan campaign vendor, NGP VAN.

A grand jury report cleared Andrew Gillum of criminal wrongdoing but found that city employees Jamie Van Pelt, Community Relations Coordinator, and Daniels were the “only persons who ever created or directed the NGP Van software to send any communications using City of Tallahassee funds.”

The grand jury findings was the basis of the ethics complaint.

DePriest told TR that “The violation of public trust by a public official is a serious matter, especially when that violation involves the misuse of taxpayer dollars for personal political gain. I applaud the Florida Commission on Ethics for holding Dustin accountable. I hope Mr. Daniels takes responsibility for his wrongdoing by settling with the Commission quickly.”

The case will now move to a formal hearing absent any settlement agreement.

  1. Good stuff. But more than a week and nothing on Erwin’s failed lawsuit against the city?

Guess you can dish em out but can’t take em. Hope y’all can do better than Jennings, who filed a complaint but couldn’t bother to show up to the hearing.

    1. Gabriel. I don’t know if you have inside info on all the possible legal action coming in the future or it’s just a hope on your part, but either way I hope you’re right. A flurry of wide-ranging indictments and charges against all the corrupt (present and past) players in the Tally-COT-Leon County cabal would be a welcome sight indeed.
