Ernest Paine, 44-Year Tallahassee Resident, Selected for Ethics Board Vacancy

The City’s Independent Ethics Board recently appointed Ernie Paine to fill the vacancy in Seat 1. Paine, who heard about the vacancy through the Talgov.com website, feels that the Independent Ethics Board is a great way for him to continue his public service in Tallahassee.

Paine recently retired from the Division of Rehabilitation and Liquidation at the Department of Financial Services.

Mr. Paine told Tallahassee Reports (TR) that he believes his previous experiences will aid in him being an effective board member – citing a long career that had a primary focus on ethics that also provided him with extensive experience in a regulated government environment.

While working in information technology, Mr. Paine worked with information that was subject to Florida’s Sunshine Law. The Sunshine Law “is a series of laws designed to guarantee that the public has access to the public records of governmental bodies in Florida.”

Mr. Paine also stated that he was subject to a strict Ethics Code since he was representing the Chief Financial Officer of the State of Florida.

Mr. Paine, who has been a resident of Tallahassee for over 44 years, feels that the city faces a lot of the same ethical issues that most cities face. He believes in the importance of ensuring that people in government, elected and appointed officials, are held accountable and operate in a transparent manner.

  1. Congratulations Mr. Paine. Maybe you bring a background of government ethics that will be of value to the board. Time will tell. Do you support a prohibition against city personnel, including commissioners and unpaid volunteers accepting any gift from a person or organization doing business with, or accepting funds from, the city?

    1. Mr. Paine, wondering why you haven’t answered my question. Do you have a position on government employees and elected officials accepting gifts?

  2. Mr Paine you state “feels that the city faces a lot of the same ethical issues that most cities face”. I ask you sir, does any other city have a school superinyendent that enacted a “hit list” as an act of vengance or cost taxpayers $600,000 while purposely misleading state and federal authorities on a false investigation only to have the school board refuse to hold him accountable for ripping off taxpayers or does anyone other city elect a school superintendent who did not pay child support for 10 years?
