After seeking a comment on this issue from Tallahassee’s Independent Ethics Board Chairman Richard Herring, Mr. Herring in an email stated that:
“As discussed during the September Board meeting, this issue, along with
the history of all Board expenses since inception, will be discussed in
4 days at our October 15 Board meeting.”
The October 15th meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 pm in the City Hall Commission Chambers.
Records retrieved from the City of Tallahassee online checkbook shows that the Tallahassee’s Independent Ethics Office paid $1,255 for memberships to the Capital Tiger Bay Club.
Sources tell Tallahassee Reports the memberships were used by the Ethics Officer, Julie Meadows-Keefe.
On their website, Capital Tiger Bay Club states the purpose of the organization is to “provide a non-partisan forum on current political issues and listen to the views of newsmakers and opinion leaders of the day.”
The expenditures were paid during a period beginning September 22nd, 2017 and ending March 21, 2019. Included below is a screen capture of the Talgov checkbook.
A review of the checkbook since September 22, 2017 show the only other expenditure in addition to the $1,255 related to “Ethics Administration” is a $125 expenditure by the Downtown Improvement Authority.
A review of office accounts for current city commissioners show no expenditures for Capital Tiger Bay memberships.
TR has reached out to Ethics Board Chairman Richard Herring for comment.
