“Local Color” to Discuss Complicated Relationship Between White Liberals and Black Americans

On Oct. 24, The Village Square, a Tallahassee-based nonpartisan forum, will host a Local Color gathering titled “It’s Complicated: Are white liberals unintentionally slowing racial progress?” The 90-minute discussion will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Junction at Monroe.

Members of The Village Square decided to hold the event after a Local Color planning meeting, noting that the topic of the relationship between white liberals and black Americans spawned “a spirited discussion about the role that white liberalism does—and doesn’t—play in advancing concerns of black America.”

The event is planned to be an engaging conversation with multiple opinions, as a cornerstone of The Village Square is solving problems through townhall-style civic conversations.

“We’ll figure it all out in 90 minutes and we’ll leave (more or less) still liking each other,” the event description states.

Throughout the year, The Village Square has hosted similar Local Color events to discuss race relations, identity politics, and related topics. “How to have a crazy real conversation on race” was held at The Junction in September, and “Remembering our hometown’s painful past on race” will take place later this year.

The Oct. 24 conversation will bring additional perspectives into the Local Color event series. Registration for the event is free on Eventbrite.

  1. The discussion may be quite the eye opener.
If reported on fairly white liberals will rejoice in the fact that local minority Democrats with the guiding hand of local ministers, paid off in hard to follow ways by our local government, will continue to locally vote Democrat.
    However here is the rub.
Local minorities are landsliding for Trump.
    Why?
    Its the economey stupid.
