Deadly 24 Hours in Tallahassee

Deadly 24 Hours in Tallahassee

According to the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD), two people were shot and killed in Tallahassee within a 24 period. Both incidents occurred on the southside of town and are being labeled as homicides.

In addition, a separate shooting took place on Thursday resulting in non-life threatening injuries.

The TPD is investigating a homicide, which occurred shortly before 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, at 1143 West Orange Avenue. According to TPD reports, officers were in the area when they heard gunshots and quickly responded and were confronted with a crowd of over 300 people. When officers attempted to get to the victim, the crowd surrounded the individual, making it difficult for officers and responding Leon County EMS personnel to assess the victim.

First responders rapidly placed the victim on a gurney and left the scene with a police escort. The victim was transported to the hospital, where they were unfortunately pronounced deceased.

Less than 12 hours earlier, TPD responded to another shooting.

TPD is investigating a homicide which occurred shortly after 6:15 p.m. on Friday, July 24, in the 3000 block of South Adams Street.

Officers responded to the area and discovered a deceased male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

On Thursday, July 23, shortly before 8:30 p.m., TPD responded to the 1500 block of Rankin Avenue to investigate a report of a shooting.

According to TPD reports, the adult male victim told police he had been walking on the sidewalk when an unknown person shot him. The victim was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Tallahassee Police investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed any of these incidents, but did not speak with an officer on scene, or anyone with information about the shooting to please call 850-891-4200. They may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.

  1. I’m waiting for that thing you call a “Mural” on Gaines Street to be changed to “THUG LIVES MATTER”. Williams-Cox can lead the March for the Change, Bryant will “Go Along” and Richardson will look the other way and Matlow can bring the Pizza and Daily can do a Commercial about it.

  2. Mr. Lyle,
I follow news stories daily and I read literally hundreds of comments every day. Yours here is the MOST INTELLIGENT, accurate, and honest comment I have read possibly ever. I don’t know who you are, but I would be honored to know you better. True wisdom and truth is rare these days. Well done sir.

  3. What is truly sad is that this young man was in need of critical care and EMS/LEO could not give it in a timely manner because of the crowd. Everyone that prevented that from happening should be ashamed! That could have made all the difference in saving his life.

    1. not only ashamed, they should be charged with being accessories to murder! Chances are if the victim had received immediate lifesaving care right there at the scene, he might be alive today. But instead, the “good guys” had to throw him onto a gurney & get the heck outa there to save their own lives! Aren’t we supposed to be under some kind of quarantine? Instead this group is hanging around looking for trouble at 2:45 in the morning!! What a mess. Anyone who in any way tries to excuse this behavior is also a big part of the problem.

  4. mr.lyle…appreciate the insight and input….this rely is not a contradiction to anything you stated…
sometimes the TRUTH opens eyes and ears for those who seek to understand…
the TRUTH also unveils “how WE as a society have been complicit in accepting behavior -practices and injustice without a meaningful solution.
…many will say “i am not my brothers keeper”….. however ….
“COMMON HUMANITY “ (which includes all mankind) is the key to addressing many of the issues that we have at our disposal…
    .
WE THE PEOPLE should not just sit back and accept the things in society that is dividing us….we should build and frame bridges that will bring us together…

    1. A fair statement to be sure. Apathy and complacency are the devils keys into the playground of the mind and heart. And when we pushed God out of our schools, the devil didn’t even need keys, because we left the doors wide open for him to exploit… and exploit he has. Racism is not one-sided, and perception is NOT reality. Prejudice lives in all of us and is an innate characteristic in all life forms. To act on that innate prejudice, to the detriment of another, is the real “act” of racism, bigotry, and assorted “phobias”.

For anyone or group to proclaim that any one culture or group is inherently racist, and incapable of evolving to a level of recognition and understanding of the distinction between prejudice and racism… is in no way interested in a solution or building a bridge of unity.

We are ALL people of color, ALL lives matter, and we are ALL privileged… thanks being to God. We are ALL privileged to live in the most gracious, inclusive, tolerant, giving, forgiving, and free Nation on this planet. We are ALL given the identical opportunity to pursue our own path toward life, liberty, happiness, and success. What an individual deems to be success in their life, is on them. What path an individual chooses to take in order to achieve that success, is on them. If they choose to accept the lie that someone else is responsible for their successes or failures, that too is 100% on them. Live your life as your own, and accept your responsibilities, successes, and failures as your own. Turning that self-empowerment and control over to someone else, is the very definition of servitude.

      1. a perfect reply. If only everyone had 1/2 of your insight it would be an incredibly different country and world. Thank you!

  5. Questionable Covid-19 lies, damn lies, and statistics OR out of control local killings.
Which is more important to obsess over?
Should we obsess over both, one but not the other, or neither one?

  6. If their lives don’t even matter to them, then why should they matter to me?

    #OnlyCertainBlackLivesMatter

  7. hope…i did not judge you …
my reply was not to disrespect your outlook…it was a general statement with satire..
by having a personal opinion or outlook does not equate TRUTH..
..i used YOUR outlook to enhance a broader view ….the statements i made are of facts.
..as far as ignorance…ALL WISDOM come from GOD…
if there is an example to follow in this life let it be the doctrine and teachings of the JESUS (GOD in the flesh) who walked among us…(he reached out his hand to poor-under privileged-sick-hungry-and abused …he also stood in audience of leadership king-priest and others of authority to uphold his obligation to GOD and mankind)
    therefore
we as a society can build on his sacrifice to make a better life for all.. rather than constantly throw stones at each other about kneeling-flags and murals

.hopefully this conversation lead to understanding that we all have faults …but the willingness to work toward a better future, (that is inclusive of all,) can be achieved

  8. Routine weekend gun fights, 300-people flocking to a shooting at 2:45 in the morning and screening off medical personnel, a youth left dead behind the Bethel AME Church – there is no rationalizing the sociology of self-destruction that is overrunning the community.

To me priority #1 is to heal from within, raise group behavioral expectations, stabilize family units, make it an esteemed value to push relentlessly for education, personal growth and contributions toward a better world.

By this I am not saying there are not very serious, long-term societal problems that must be fixed to allow higher levels of economic progress. That’s a given.

    1. Indeed. It seems so silly that so many people cannot accept that there are multitudes of issues and each need to be addressed in their own ways.

Why in the world are three hundred people gathered at 2:45 am? And I cannot imagine that the disagreement that resulted in gunfire rose to that need. This is why we can’t have nice things.

On the other hand, it should not be controversial that policemen murdering people is not acceptable, or to pretend that the justice system treats different races the same. It is all very sad.

  9. HOPE….
glad you seem to know so much about the shootings ..contact the law enforcers and help solve the crime??.
..once again i see it is easy to “point the finger” at others for things heard-read-or expressed rather than acting personally to help things change…BTW…who are the “those” you are referring too?…breanna taylor, ammad aubrey, george Floyd….YOU state that all lives matter etc. the constitution states WE the people…so why isn’t it just as easy to acknowledge that BLACK LIVES MATTER….they are a part of all lives…they should be included in WE THE PEOPLE ….
furthermore…you mentioned JESUS then immediately started passing judgment….how can you -JUDGE-any pastor….that determination is GOD’s alone…therefore i will close this reply to your comment because you have shown who you are

    1. Thank you for providing an example of the ignorance that is so prevalent and leads to so many problems– thank you thank you thank you!

There’s a difference between judging and speaking up for truth. You just collapsed your own argument by (mis) judging me.

    2. An Inconvenient Truth:

It is not Law Enforcement that needs to be reformed or re-imagined. Indeed there are process and procedures that need to be adjusted or tweaked as time progresses. But what Law Enforcement is in most need of… is to be followed and respected. “Law and Order” is the very foundation of a civil society. What we are witnessing today from this Democrat-financed anarchy is the complete antithesis of that.

It is the black community and culture that needs to be reformed and redirected. The black community needs to return to its core belief in family and the family unit, and also to return to its long history of faith and belief in Christ. For far too long, far too many within the black community have surrendered their individualism, and have allowed themselves to become wards of the state. They have been fed the lies of “systemic racism” and “government dependence” by Democrat and Republican politicians (white, black, or otherwise) and the Media conglomerates. Man does not give your your rights nor your standing in life. Your rights are inalienable and come from God… and your standing in life is completely in your control… no matter the color of your skin. As Dr. King so wisely proclaimed… it is “the content of your character” that matters, not the “color of your skin”.

  10. Sorta of the way White churches should condemn the KKK. Wait…they don’t do that. The KKK is listed as a Christian organization. I wonder what kinds of ppl would follow that kind of religion…

    1. I feel sorry for you that you give a response like this. I will pray for you and hope that you will rise above and see the light.

  11. Thank-you to the three divisive Tallahassee City Commissioners — Curtis Richardson, Dianne Williams- Cox, and Elaine Bryant for inciting these actions.

Painting graffiti of black lives matter on intersections was a bad decision and incites those who are not yet mature enough to control their emotions.

Not only are these three commissioners divisive they are dangerous to the public-at-large because of their political activism to not help their people but to control them and mislead them.

All lives matter, Blue lives matter, and Jesus matters!

It is time for the black pastors to keep politics at bay from their doors and preach the word. It is time for the voters on the south-side to vote content of character and not the color of the skin.

Vote Schack, Jack, and Tommy Mills…

.. if you want changes on the south-side like reduced crime, good jobs, increased property values, and well-planned development in your community.

Cox incites rioting, Curtis lies and fuelss for his own personal gain, and Elaine Bryant goes along with it and is an Insider that has done nothing to flush out City corruption.

    1. TR should add a turtle icon to the map over SouthWood. Yordon’s column this weekend is about him killing a turtle as two kids watched.

    2. Hope, that is an EXCELLENT FB post by Judy Richardson Jarvis! I applaud her & her wonderful family, wherever they are. Only thing I found questionable about it was her husband’s choice of ties, lol.
