Are the new numbers going to be updated soon? The entry today (8/10) still has information from August 6. I follow this every day, so I keep checking to see if it’s been updated. Thank you!
Average of new daily cases in Leon County, May 24-June 24: 9
Total number of new cases: 284
Leon County mask ordinance in effect: June 25
Average of new daily cases in Leon County July 6-August 6: 93 (over 10x increase)
Total number of new cases: 2,688 (just under 10x increase)

If every you publish another article about the hospitals it would be interesting to find out the average hospital stay.
I look at this website every day. I live in Broward County and we don’t get stats like this – so everyone please be grateful. For the first time, we are able to see the number of people who are hospitalized, not just the total admissions since it started. I also appreciate that this paper published information about how each hospital is approaching the COVID patients. This is what I call good reporting, responsible reporting to the people in your area. Thank you.
Is the number of positives for today (7/31) 98 or 69? The body of the article says 98 but the chart says 69. Thank you so much for posting this information each day!
Please update your COVID-19 numbers. The information is pretty difficult to find elsewhere. Thank you.
Would love to see the updated data. I look at this every day.
Where is the data from the 21st?
Is it possible to give us data about when these tests were conducted or what the average wait for test results is?
Yes we do need that wall…to isolate the “virus truthers” ….I’d feel more confident then
I have read reports that some of the private labs are ONLY reporting positive tests, but NOT any negative results, so the % of positive cases looks much higher (noting 100% of tests are positive for the day). In addition, with the opening of hospitals to elective surgeries and the testing of all patients, the # of positives also is increasing, but the people were admitted for OTHER reasons, and might have light or NO symptoms, so although counted as CV19 hospital cases (& hospitals getting higher reimbursements), they are patients with CV19, but not hospitalized DUE TO CV19. Good summary here: https://swprs.org/a-swiss-doctor-on-covid-19/
You all are good at research, however, maybe a breakdown of actual Tallahassee residents is warranted as the surrounding area send all cases here.
You have to wonder where TR is getting their information. The official DOH report in .pdf format that was published today (July 9th at 9:25am) shows that there are only 62 hospitalizations of Leon County residents, not 72 like TR is reporting.
I think TR’s reporter is taking information off of the Dashboard instead of the official .pdf. The Dashboard (which is infinitely less accurate) also counts COVID-19 hospitalizations of NON-RESIDENTS, and there are 10 of those.
Perhaps TR should consider publishing their numbers from the official report that is published each day by DOR.
A non-resident in a local hospital impacts hospital resources. Also, our report on current hospitalizations we get from each hospital does not separate out non-residents.
I am not getting your hospitalization numbers to add up for Leon County. You reported on June 24th there were 6 covid cases in the hospitals. Since then the total number of new hospitalizations on your daily update has been 16. 6 plus 16 does not equal 43 covid cases as reported on July 8th. they equal 22. Where have the other 21 persons reported as being hospitalized come from. Also has no one been released inc June 24th.
What are the real numbers and how can I trust your reporting?
FDOH is not reporting hospitalizations correctly. According to people working at CRMC and TMH, there are 24, and 19 hospitalized COVID patients, for a total of 43 in Leon County.
Many of them were added in the last 7-10 days.
Like the data. Suggestion is if your data could include the number of daily hospital discharges. While there is an increase in admissions, the data from Dade county shows increase in discharges.
If it’s all fake, you might want to tell the families of the 3,832 people who have so far died of Covid-19 in Florida — and note that (a) today will be the third of the last four days with 10,000 new cases in the State, more than double anything that we experienced through mid-June; and (b) what was largely a southern Florida problem has begun affecting north Florida as well: cases in Leon County have more than tripled in number in the last two weeks, from 587 to 1798.
Relax your sphincters sheeple.
This whole fake panties in a wad panic will be totally over once Trump is re elected.
At that point we will all begin to treat this “flu like” “common cold like” boogy monster known as Covid – 19 as we have treated the flu and common cold year after year in the past.
But if a few of you want to wear your masks for the rest of your lives its OK.
Relax your sphincters sheeple.
100% of asymptomatic carriers don’t know they are infected. Until they get sick.
At which point they have put every close contact at risk for 3-5 days.
If a mask means they infect only 1 person and not 2, that’s huge! Do the math
I think the current number of people hospitalized is the most important number. Thanks for getting this information.
You have the total negative count swapped with total tests. There were 28,843 total tests and 27,681 negative for June 30. Looks like those numbers have been inaccurate for a little while now.
Thanks for the comment. We have addressed the issue.
Gave blood today. Will be interested to see if I have the antibodies. I was sick with flu or allergy symptoms back in March but no fever.
Instead of giving us just the number of daily new cases, and then the total number of negative cases, how about also giving the total number of tests per day with the number of positive and negative results. This would show if the actual percentage of positives per total tested is going up, staying the same or going down.
The running totals of both the positive and negative cases is misleading. How many people in Leon county have recovered? These numbers have been accumulating for over two months. Also it appears though there are more positives, the number of hospitalizations and deaths are not increasing in proportion to the number of positives.
News maiden, ur spot on. Democrats are the communist party, period. America better wake up. BLM is a marxists movement to overthrow free society, nothing to do with blm. If it was, they would all be in Chicago. Democrats are communist. Wake up America.
Actually the case numbers don’t match up with the FDOH dashboard either. What source are you using for your information? Where does the current hospital information come from? I would love to have this reference. Thanks!
I’m still not matching up your hospitalization numbers with the FDOH site. Is there another source that you are using?
Well theres been 4 hospitalizations in the last 2 weeks, so Im guessing at most that many. Cases dont reallly matter that much as 99% of cases are mild.
Once again, how many cases in Leon County are still hospitalized? How many of the 405 cases are no longer positive and current? I think these numbers are just as important as the total cumulative numbers which are all the information we get from all the news outlets.
Do we know why there was such a massive uptick in new cases in Leon County on 5/25 (25)? Why would it jump from 1-2 per day to 40?
Oh my god
So many people are dying
They should stop Going outside because like if they’re idiots then we’re all going to die and goIn into a job is different
I was exposed to COVID19 in December 2019, and got the disease in January 2020. I have tested positive for the antibodies. The numbers being reported are low considering no one was keeping track of this disease in Dec 2019. Stay safe out there. This is NOT something you want to have. I had lingering sickness for 3 months afterwards. Better now, but will do everything I can to NOT get it again.
To do nothing but criticize others who are doing something and making mistakes is the easiest thing.
I would like to thank people actually working on this blog.
How many people who have been hospitalized are currently in the hospital? All we ever get is the running total.
We are looking into these numbers.
Where do the hospital numbers come from? FDOH has reported 33 hospitalizations for over a week now. Am I missing something?
Too much negativity on this page repeatedly by same persons. Lighten up folks. Instead rejoice in the news that Leon County is one comparatively safe zone. Those that can go back to work will probably do so as the state opens up. Testing? There is testing for the next few days at the FAMU Bragg Stadium https://www.wctv.tv/content/news/FAMU-coronavirus-testing-site-now-open-at-Bragg-Stadium-569953881.html and there are other sites as well, just google. Let’s all cooperate and follow CDC guidelines and stay well.
In the last 14 official reporting days (5-2-20 through 5-15-20) according to the FDOH report in .pdf format, 5,268 people have been tested in Leon County with only 41 new cases. That’s a 0.8% infection rate.
The 14 days prior to this (4-18-20 through 5-1-20), 1,239 people in Leon County had been tested, with 58 new cases. This was an infection rate of 4.7%.
So even with a 300%+ increase in the number of people tested in the last two weeks, Leon County actually realized 17 fewer cases than the preceding two weeks.
Theres been about 50 new cases in the last two weeks. We can probably assume everyone before that is recovered. So there are not 250 cases.
Please correct this sentence:
There has been six deaths reported in Leon County.
I’m sick of seeing it.
These Leon County numbers come from the FDOH daily report that was published today (May 12th):
* For the 12 days from 4/18/20 – 4/29/20, 1,065 people were tested, and 44 of them tested positive. That is a positive percentage rate of 4.1%.
* For the 12 days from 4/30/20 – 5/11/20, 4,152 people were tested, and only 37 of those tested positive. That is a positive percentage rate of only 0.9%.
So in just the last 12 days, 3,000+ more people have been tested than the preceding 12 days, but there were 7 FEWER positive tests. And the percentage of positive tests decreased from 4.1% to 0.9%.
* Still only 6 deaths in Leon County, and 5 of those came from the Tallahassee Developmental Center.
https://www.wtxl.com/news/local-news/tallahassee-developmental-center-confirms-five-covid-19-related-deaths
Now, can we PLEASE stop with the “All of us are going to die” doomsday predictions? If you want to stay home, cowering in fear, then by all means stay home. As for me and my family, we’ve already started living our lives again. Thank you, Governor DeSantis.
30.5% actually. LTC Report (current cases as of 5/7) shows TDC with 76 positive cases. 32 Residents, and 44 Staff.
So the TDC represents 13% of Leon Co Total Positive….if you are talking residents only.
I think I read about LTC places in the US “housing” staff members on site but not sure if TDC does this. Majority of TDC positive cases are Staff members. If they don’t bunk at TDC, they are/were (when tested positive) elsewhere in the county. More staff members tested positive than the residents.
To those of you who think we should stay shut down and hide in our homes. you have the right not to go back to work due to your fears of a virus. But shouldn’t I have a right not to pay taxes to subsidize those who choose to stay home because they don’t want to work? Those who need to stay home for real health issues should be the ones we are supporting not those who just see a free ride at the taxpayers expense and use this coronavirus as an excuse. Some people are legitimately concerned and are able to work from home and that is great. I am one of those. I have not lost a paycheck. some people can’t feed their families because of the fear mongering and they’ve lost their businesses and their jobs. If you’re staying at home and belittling those who want to go back to work then don’t order anything from Amazon or any takeout or even go to the grocery store. Why should those people have to leave their houses to provide you with necessities when you think others should stay at home and let the economy crash. If the soldiers who fought in World War II and other wars to protect our freedom had Allowed their fear to send them into hiding we wouldn’t have freedom to give away so easily. Their chances of being killed in war were greater than our chances of being killed by the coronavirus. They had guns and we have masks and hand sanitizer. I think we have a better chance of surviving than they did. So let us get back to work in this great nation in a safe manner and not live in fear because that will destroy us quicker than the coronavirus. If you want to stay at home then make sure you are not doing it at taxpayer expense. If you are able to work from home remember the grocery store clerks, truckers and those who deliver packages, the meatpacking plants and others that produce the necessities we need can’t stay at home. so quit being a hypocrite.
Didn’t FDR say all have to fear is fear its self? Fear does a lot of crazy things.
Updated on May 8, 2020 @ 11:30am:
5 of the 6 deaths reported in Leon County have come from one place – the Tallahassee Developmental Center. I’m betting that a great many of the total number of positive cases in our county have also come from this location. So despite what the City, County & CEO of TMH would have us believe, Leon County is probably not a hotbed of COVID-19 activity.
The pain, death, and destruction being experienced by America, Americans, and our economy as a result of China’s egregious malfeasance… has now officially transitioned into a full-blown Democrat Party Campaign strategy. The more America and Americans suffer, the happier they are… and they don’t even hide it anymore.
I believe we may be witnessing the most extraordinary, malicious, and nefarious election meddling scheme of our lifetime. The Democrats hatred for America and Americans, and their lust for the destruction of our Great Republic, knows no boundaries and carries no empathy for the innocent… particularly children and the elderly. Be smart, watch your six, protect yourselves and your families, and may God bless us all.
I’m not sure who compiles these statistics for TR, and I’m equally unsure as to why they are presented in the fashion that they are. As shown, they don’t really show an accurate and recent “trend”. As you know, the more recent the “trend”, the more accurate picture is painted as to virus activity in Leon County. For example, the text displayed in the May 2nd update shows 233 total positive cases and 3,176 total negative cases – which is a running total for both dating back to whenever they started tracking these cases – which I’m assuming is around 2 months ago.
Wouldn’t it be more informative and accurate to track positive and negative cases on a DAILY basis as a percentage of the total number of tests administered? This is how the State is doing it now. For example, the numbers below are from FDOH. They clearly show that since April 13th, the percentage of daily positive cases confirmed in the State when compared with the number of daily tests administered has gone down from 9.4 to 4.8, which is substantial, and provided some of the data points that led to leaders loosening the lock down measures.
DATE TESTED CONFIRMED PERCENTAGE
13-Apr 9926 930 9.4
14-Apr 7358 595 8.1
15-Apr 10941 909 8.3
16-Apr 17244 1203 7.0
17-Apr 14189 1088 7.7
18-Apr 10300 746 7.2
19-Apr 10713 717 6.7
20-Apr 11778 753 6.4
21-Apr 14160 867 6.1
22-Apr 12630 709 5.6
23-Apr 21280 1224 5.8
24-Apr 15575 744 4.8
25-Apr 19337 801 4.1
26-Apr 10259 522 5.1
27-Apr 13557 763 5.6
28-Apr 8261 347 4.2
29-Apr 11331 520 4.6
30-Apr 21053 1012 4.8
However, when TR displays text for Leon County, it paints a much different picture. For example, using your “running total” (as opposed to daily total) method, on the April 13th update, you state that Leon County had a 7.6% positive rate. But, in the May 2nd update, the positive rate in Leon County was still 6.8%.
I’m predicting that if you compiled and displayed the statistics for Leon County the same way the FDOH does for the entire state, it would be much, much lower. For example, state it this way:
“On (X) date in Leon County, (X) number of people were tested. Of that total, X tested positive and X tested negative.” (you can exclude the inconclusive tests since their numbers are marginal anyway). Then calculate the % of positive tests when compared with the total number tested. That is the only statistically accurate way to display a credible trend, which is what everyone is interested in.

Important accurate information should not be suppressed by authorities. There appears to be major corruption in the system suppressing that there are known effective ways to reduce coronavirus risk and treatments documented to treat effectively- used effectively by other countries where the system is not controlled by special interests- as it is in the U.S.
TMH was saying a couple weeks ago we would most likely have 50 hospitalizations a day by now in our region. We have 1 per day.
The “Hospital” field shows the number of cases that were hospitalized of the total cases – that’s why the number doesn’t go down. It’s not the number currently in the hospital.
With all this COVID-19 and staying Home being Self Distancing, how would you like to get out and have some safe FUN? Go to HawksEvents.com and click on the “Selfie Scavenger Hunt Link”. Set for MAY 16th. I hope you Register to Play. It’s FREE.
This site is no better than the Tallahassee Democrat. You delete information that people need to see. Bye.
All of the cases should be resolved from a couple week ago so that should leave about 10 in the hospital and maybe 50 confirmed cases. About 10 per 100k.
The longer we stay locked up the less immunity you will have for other diseases from virus and bacteria. There are both good and bad virus and bacteria. There is going to be a flood of disease after the lock down is over. This is not going to end up very pretty. The ignorance on here is astounding.
0.00071875 of one percent. Get real. Go to work.
If you REALLY want to Help, try giving out the Names of those who live in Leon County that test Positive for Covid-19. That will help a LOT. A second Person where I work tested Positive and with my Job, I interact with a LOT of People daily and if I knew who these two were, I would know if I am at risk as well and will go get tested. Some at the DJJ Office Building just tested positive too. They are not releasing the Names so, that means EVERYONE these 3 hung out with or Mingled with could ALSO have it and not know and could be passing it to others as I type this. Screw the Right to Privacy, put their Names out there.
That was supposed to read “SomeONE at the DJJ Office Building”. Some how the ONE got left off.
Theres that slippery slope.
Stay in your mother’s basement. We will give you the all clear when you can come out. This is totally ridiculous.
Yeah James, wait until it is someone in YOUR Office and no one will tell you if it is someone you interacted with or not…………OR, like in my case, Someone in my Building (now 2 People) tested Positive and they wont tell you who, and I have to interact with a lot of People in my Building but they only evacuated that section. Even though I am not IN that section, I do have to interact with a few people that ARE in that section.
The 4/22 5pm FDOH report shows a total of 187 cases and 2 deaths. The actual detail lists three cases dated 4/22 rather than just one more….as for some reason two previously (17th & 20th) reported cases have been dropped from the report. Report does state “provisional and subject to change” but I still find it odd.
James, don’t be ridiculous. It’s NOT the flu. The death rates are far above normal and we are not at the peak yet.
The original estimate of deaths into the millions were based on a 50% compliance rate for staying at home/social distancing.
While the numbers only reflect those who are tested (and even that is weeks behind), they are “low” because of greater widespread compliance. Drop that and the numbers will skyrocket.
Just ONE infected person is thought to have infected Albany, GA and their hospitalization is now over 1,400 with almost 100 deaths in just a few weeks.
That could still be us if we stop preventative measures.
I personally don’t have a problem with Trumpies holding their rallies and opening businesses so they can soak in their infection stew.
Just stay far, far away from the rest of us–and that includes burdening the hospitals too.
You guys want no medical care for anyone. You got it. Put your money where your mouth is.
How could anyone not stay far, far away from you if you’re locked in your house? Why do you have to even say this? Who’s trying to get into your crypt?
“And that includes burdening the hospitals too”. You want to tell people they’re not allowed to go to hospitals? Who are you? There are people who need to leave their homes in order to work so they can feed their families.
“You guys want no medical care for anyone”. Who are you referring to? Are you implying there are people out there who don’t want medical care, even for themselves? Name me someone whose position is “no one shall receive medical care”. The position of a lot of people is they don’t want to pay for the medical care of strangers. Why do you have a problem with free adults assessing the risks and making the best decision for them and their families? If someone goes out and gets the coronavirus, how does that affect you? You’ve made the decision to stay inside. If lockdowns actually work, how could you be in any danger?
You want people to get infected and die?
@lena
In case you FORGOT, let me refresh your memory……….It was TRUMP that wanted to stop all Flights from China back in January but the Democrats fought against it. It was TRUMP that said it will be a Pandemic but the Democrats called him a Fearmonger and kept telling people to ignore him and to go out to the Movies, out to Dinner and to the Parks. It was TRUMP that wanted to do a Stay Home Order but the Democrats Fought against it. And NOW, the Democrats are BLAMING Trump for NOT stopping the Flights sooner and for not making People Stay Home sooner and for not shutting down the Businesses sooner, etc. It was the DEMOCRATS. If you have paid ANY Attention at all, you should have noticed that all the Cities with the highest Numbers have been and ARE ran by Democrats so you can stop with that “Trumpies” BS.
This whole thing is really nothing more than the glorified common flu with a mortality rate of one tenth of one percent. Open up before thousands die.
This is nothing like the flu. Nothing like it. It is by far more dangerous. If you don’t understand numbers, then leave it to the people who do.
When will DeSantis speak on how Florida will handle easing up on restrictions? When will the Mayor of Tallahassee talk about restrictions so we CAN get to phase one.
Phase I will start on Monday 05/04 everywhere in the state except South Florida. This is meaningless in some sense, since people can move between counties easily and people from South Florida to anywhere else in the state.
We Will Not Comply,
When will there be a Michigan or Ohio-style demonstration at the Capitol urging an end to the tyrannical, fear-mongering shuttering of our economy?

One new case reported today 4/16 5pm report: a 2 yr old boy. contact with confirmed case. My heart goes out to him and his family. Along with concern about that community’s social distancing.
Hospital numbers represents those hospitalized at any time since confirmation/duration of their illness. Those folks may not all be still in hospital.
TR: you might consider dropping the commentary to the daily posting of your helpful spreadsheet as today’s doesn’t match. “..no new cases” versus 5 on the chart. Maybe a few other disconnects previously. I look at the State report nearly daily. Thank you for the service you provide.
No one is talking about the pool of people that is needed to yield 155 confirmed cases. Based on Florida numbers, it takes approx 35,000 infected people to yield 155.
Jim, I can see how it may appear misleading when you have 30 positive one day and zero the next. The 30 was a result of an isolated cluster of cases from the developmental center in which everyone was tested at the same time. If the 30 came from random people that were not in close contact with each other it would have been more alarming and would suggest that the numbers in the subsequent days would continue to increase from general community spread. Tallahassee is not there yet though and hopefully never will be. The zero the following day were confirmed positives. Sometimes results are still taking up to 72 hours so if someone was tested yesterday and gets results 3 days later that are positive the results will be reflected on the day the results were received and not taken. It may be more accurate to look at 3 day averages. Either way, what Leon county is doing is working and as long as we keep this up we will get though this with minimal casualties. If everyone remains socially responsible and keeps adhering to guidelines I do not forsee a massive surge beyond the numbers we have seen thus far.
I call bs on the number of cases per day. Either tests are not being administered, analyzed, or reported in an orderly manner. Look at daily statistics.
My opinion only but I feel that Corona is causing way to much fear and panic! We’ve shut down our country. How can we tell mitigation has made a big difference in saving hundreds of thousands of lives. We went down that slippery slope with our reactions and media coverage and political coverage. Italy reclassified their deaths and found only 12% due to Corona. That was said by the Minister of health if Italy. We like they did initially classified all deaths Covid instead of heart disease, sepsis, respiratory failure, etc. similar percentages would have the US with around 3,000 right now.
Look at hospitalizations. That’s the best measure I feel.
Silver lining we will learn from this and the public will be better with personal hygiene, infection control, etc
Ok, but how many are CURRENTLY in the hospital or active? 1000 hospitalizations, 7000 cases two weeks ago. Where are they now? Either they have died or recovered by now. This cumulative number is telling a false narrative.
In a quantitative inorganic lab class I had as an undergrad, our professor said that; “5% or less contamination here is considered negligible/a non-issue.” I’ve carried that with me since and have expanded it to consider something on sale for 5% off to be also a bit funny.
However, at nearly 8% with this contagious @#$% things around here are starting to get real.
I would like to stay anonymous.
Just thought everyone should know, TCC and FHP are in direct violation of the governor’s order that “all” college campuses be closed to students. Pat Thomas Law academy ( Florida Public Safety Institute), is a Tallahassee Community College campus. All other law enforcement agencies have sent their student’s home and or they are taking classes remotely. With the exception of Florida Highway Patrol recruits/student’s. These recruits/student’s, are traveling home on the weekend’s to highly contagious area’s of the state, then returning to campus the following Monday. Further risking the spread of Covid-19
