Leon County Institutes Curfew at Request of Law Enforcement

Leon County Institutes Curfew at Request of Law Enforcement

By request of law enforcement, Leon County will institute a curfew effective from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Wednesday (September 2) and continuing each day until Tuesday (September 8) morning.

Due in part to recent violence during protests and demonstrations in Leon County, and out of an abundance of caution, Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil requested the countywide curfew in an effort to prevent further violence and unrest. With the request of the curfew, Sheriff McNeil intends to maintain an individual’s rights to peaceful and lawful protest while ensuring the protection of everyone’s safety and help first responders maintain peace.

During the curfew, County residents should remain home; individuals may go to and from work, seek healthcare or emergency veterinary care, or walk a pet on their premises.

“While we respect the right of individuals to peacefully protest, our first obligation remains ensuring the safety of our community,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Bryan Desloge.

A proclamation establishing the curfew will be posted on the Leon County Emergency Information Portal (www.LeonCountyFL.gov/ei). The proclamation is attached below.

  1. Folks none of this will change until this whole Nation returns to faith in Jesus Christ and obedience to the Ten Commandments!
America’s problem is a spiritual problem that cannot be fixed by new laws!

    The Bible says:

    Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

    America has a heart problem!
We have evil, hate filled hearts because we’ve abandoned God!
We’ve thrown God out of every public place and banned Him from all our schools!
WE ARE REAPING THE RESULTS OF THAT!
This violence and chaos will increase until we return our hearts to Jesus Christ the KING of kings and LORD of lords!

When we threw GOD out of our schools Satan gladly moved in to take over!

PRAY FOR AMERICA TO REPENT! We must RETURN TO THE GOD THAT MADE US GREAT! IT IS OUR ONLY HOPE!

    Amen!
    Proverbs 14:34
Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
    Psalm 53:1
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

    1. This directly effects my ability to make money at work. Thanks a lot leon county. WE THE PEOPLE can hold our local politicians accountable!

  2. This is the dumbest shit I’ve heard most protests and riots go on before 11PM ….11 or 12 except for cities with democrat mayors and democrat governed states they stay out longer …….this curfew for ppl with common damn sense does nothing ……. At what time did a protest turn violent here in tallahassee ???

    1. i totally agree with you and the guy who pulled the gun and not charged or shot was an agent it was a set up man because florida is a swing state. this i sthe most unconstitutional load of crap i have ever seen 5 days locking dowb at 11 pm akk citizens over a grand jury meeting what is next? its raining out so it will be slippery citizens stay in your homes!! the city needs to be sued contact the aclu everyone should why should anyone be forced to fell like they are breaking the law for being outside after 11 pm!! the sickness was one thing the whole country did it for 15 days but now this over the most peaceful protests in the country so far and truthfully this is a test to see how far they can take it. unreal

  3. I did a google search, and there was a protest which, at one point escalated into an altercation in which protesters started beating a gentleman, who then drew a gun, but did not shoot anyone. The gentleman then surrendered his gun to police and laid prone on the ground. Does this warrant a general curfew? Why not just deploy more police or sheriffs to oversee the protests? I think a curfew is a last resort, and should be carefully considered.

  4. Not that one vote matters much, but this curfew just lost every Tallahassee/Leon elected official my vote. I will be voting against every incumbent. I don’t protests, so why am I getting a curfew.

  5. Stay home! when you come out put your mask on. Are go back home to your mothers. This is a place for quite Christians, a settled town. We are tired of gangs coming from other areas causing trouble. And student not wanting to follow protocol. Tallahassee is not having that, “guns at protest and setting fires.” We will abide by the law and stand with Law Enforcement orders. If you don’t like it go back to your out of control town, this is the Capital, respect that.

  6. As Mark E said, this curfew is in anticipation of the upcoming grand jury decision. The decision will likely not sit well with the “protestors” who will take to the streets. The curfew is in place ahead of time so legal actions can be taken when things get out of hand, which they most likely will.

  7. I don’t understand why people on this site aren’t happy about this? I kind of thought you would be into law enforcement enacting broadside style mandates designed to stop protests and / or gang shootings.

If people are out after curfew, be it at a protest, or to be part of a gang war, then they can be subject to arrest. Isn’t making it easier to arrest people something you would appreciate?

  8. There is a shooting almost every Saturday night in Tallahassee. Just because you don’t hear about on the news, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

    1. The Tallahassee Democrat recently reported that there was a Southside gang and a Northside gang. The report stated the info was discovered in court papers.

What was the date that the Tallahassee Democrat discovered this information?

And how long did it take them to report this information to the public?

Was there a pre-election cover-up regarding reporting this information? Or was this report withheld until after the election? If so, this should be the story of the year.

  9. Does the county have a lawyer? Curfews are very strong legal medicine it seems to me this one is about a violent gang war.

  10. This should be questioned seriously. If those who are violent are on the same order as honest protestors, then the conclusion is unacceptable in a free country, where the right to free speech is being violated. Rioters should be arrested.

  11. So… if I have this right, and I believe that I do…

The city “leaders” held an illegal “out of the Sunshine” meeting to approve and allocate taxpayer time, money, and resources to paint a huge “Marxists Welcome” sign in the middle of the city… and are now inexplicably upset that they actually showed up to spread their Marxist anarchy and mayhem.

    … I got it now… thanks

  12. They are just loving their little power trip. I’ll be out before 5:00 am on Friday. Surgery starts at 5:00. Need to be there at 4:30.

  13. If you have enough time on your hands to participate in this nonsense then you should seriously contemplate hiring a life coach. You are in serious need of direction, ambition, stability, and professional success. Also, in need of some psychiatric and perhaps most of all… spiritual guidance.

Otherwise, place your index finger in an upward position and extend your thumb outward, then place squarely over your forehead to signify that you are a LOSER.

    1. @Hope – You were describing a father. I think most of these folks did not have a strong father figure in their life to teach them the difference between right and wrong.

  14. We let Desloge and McNeil get away with waaaay too many of these curfews. They have both worn out their welcome and it’s time for both to go. This is what happens when law abiding citizens stand for this abuse of power… they lose their freedom. Instead, why doesn’t TPD and LCSO do their F*****g jobs and arrest illegal protesters instead of creating a police state?

  15. Ignorance and bigotry rears its nasty head whenever there’s a lawfully held protest. It’s ignorant to always assume that the protest is violent. It could be someone who is using the protest to reck havoc or cause violence. Protest leaders need to plan better and monitor who is participating.

  16. Are these acts of violence from protesters and demonstrators occurring between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.? Or does it have to do with the gang violence and shootings occurring around Tallahassee?

  17. Thanks Antifa, the Tallahassee Community Action Committee, the City Manager and City Hall for your bumfuddling of a selection of Chief of Police and getting way too involved in social justice issues, and the three people to the left of Uncle Fester, and the three people to the right of Uncle Fester. Vote them out.

    1. I couldn’t agree more!!! The capital, where these anarchists and Marxists are illegally protesting, without permits, is not LCSO jurisdiction!! This town is run by clowns!! If you clowns, which includes McMeil and Revell, did your jobs properly… We wouldn’t need a curfew!! VOTE THEM ALL OUT!

      1. LCSO has the response burden for the Capital itself via a mutual aid arrangement with Capital Police / FDLE.
TPD has the public roadway in front of the Capital.

That said, the entire City is in Leon County. So, LCSO can freely move anywhere while TPD has some jurisdictional limits.
