FSU and FAMU Cancel Spring Breaks Over COVID Concerns

Florida State University has announced that its 2021 spring break will be canceled, and the spring semester will end earlier than planned. Florida A&M University will also cancel their spring break and use the same calendar for the spring semester as FSU because of the joint operation of the FAMU-FSU college of engineering.

The announcement was made by Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Sally McRorie. It stated that the spring semester will begin on Jan. 6, 2021, and the first three days of all classes will take place remotely. Since spring break will be canceled, the semester will end one week earlier than planned on April 23, 2021. Exam week will be April 19 through April 13.

These changes come after FSU has seen a number of large gatherings and received criticism for lack of adherence to mask and social distancing guidelines at football games.

By canceling spring break, the university aims to control the spread of COVID-19 by reducing the number of COVID-19 positive students returning to campus after traveling during spring break.

Other Florida universities, including the University of Florida, the University of Miami and Florida International University also canceled their spring breaks for 2021.

  1. I heard [but did not see] that a local college student got drunk at a bar by the beach. So this move by the bored of directors makes perfect cents. There are more ideas in a book called ‘1984’ written by George Orwell in 1949 that can be implemented!

Possibly he got drunk because his college roommate’s great grandfather was mistreated by someone.

  2. Cancel Spring Break? C’mon gang…be creative. Have you not learned anything? Skip class for a week and hit the beach. How hard can this be?

  3. This is not enough! We must mandate full student internment.
Tens of thousands of students come from all around Florida and / or outside the State and United States. The only safe path forward is to barbed wire fence the perimeter and not allow anyone who leaves campus to potentially bring back the Covid menace. No excuses: weddings, funerals, sibling birthdays, family reunions, even trips to the grocery store are not as important as preventing the spread.
Quarantine tent cities with armed guard towers will serve as transition points and only after 92 consecutive negative tests will students who escape be allowed back inside the perimeter.
    Obey!

  4. Keep stoking the fear. We know who runs most of the major universities. Last study done by a Brown University epidemiologist, not exactly a bastion for Conservative thought, indicated that not one, NOT ONE, college student had been hospitalized across the Country from COVID-19. Bigger risk comes from riding their motor scooter on campus.
