COVID Response, Vaccine Distribution Among Top Priorities for City Commission Retreat

The agenda for the City Commission retreat next week has been released. The retreat, which is hosted annually, is slated for Wednesday, Jan. 13.

According to the agenda, the top priorities for the retreat include the City’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, updates on the local economy, the first annual review of the 2020-2024 Strategic Plan and the COVID vaccine distribution plan.

The agenda notes that Moderna vaccine distribution is already underway through a collaboration between the City and Leon County, and over 4,800 individuals in Leon County have received their first dose of the vaccine.

Leon County residents ages 65 and older can currently receive the vaccine; according to the agenda, “This first wave of local inoculations, including both doses, is expected to be completed by early February 2021. Distribution and population prioritization for subsequent Moderna vaccines is still in the planning process.”

The retreat will also include discussions on infrastructure investment on the Southside and in other areas as well as a review of 2020, including the City’s COVID-19 response, economic development and public safety.

The retreat will take place at the Electric and Gas Logistics Facility on Jackson Bluff Road. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and adjournment is at 2:30 p.m. Public comment will take place at 11:30 a.m.

  1. Have fun on the “Rules for thee, but not for me” retreat. Total French Revolution vibes here. We won’t eat your cake.

  2. Of course fewer people get the flu when you have more people wearing masks and avoiding some kinds of gatherings…the flu is a respiratory virus transmitted like the sars covid2. There were record low numbers for the flu in the Southern hemisphere where the same kind of measures were in place which is usually 6 months ahead if us in the flu season….it’s summer there now….and your point?

  3. Public comment at 11:30 AM – 11:33 AM. So be sure to come out and enjoy your right to express your opinions to your Great Leaders?
Just kidding but I’m glad we subjects of our Great Leaders do not have to fund yet another drunken drug fueled sex fest retreat for our Great Leaders at Amelia Island this year like every year that came before. See some good things did come out of the pandemic?
Lets use that facility out on Jackson Bluff Road for our Great Leaders retreat from now on!!!
