At today’s City Commission retreat, the commissioners unanimously approved considering requests for special events that include COVID-19 protocol plans. Plans will be reviewed by City staff and approved by the City Commission before the events can take place.
Commissioner Jeremy Matlow expressed concern about resuming large events and said the City needs to “tread very cautiously with events.”
“In this pandemic, I think we’re finally at a point where it looks like we can see a finish line with the vaccine coming out, but we’re not quite there yet,” he said.
Along with having COVID protocol plans, events must adhere to preventative measures like masks, physical distancing, cleaning and disinfection.
The first event planned to take place this year will be the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade. This event will take place on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Because of safety precautions, this event will be a drive-thru parade where the floats and exhibits will be stationary on Monroe St., and spectators will move along the parade route in their vehicles.

Don’t worry, the city will follow the other socialist cities in this country and start opening up now that Biden is going to be the new President.
Ask Commifornia how well masks are working.
The restaurant mask thing defies logic. So it’s perfectly fine to sit at a table for an hour and eat maskless but to get up and walk 30 seconds to the exit you must wear a mask.
That’s about as stupid as having to wear a mask when you walk into a restaurant and then take it off when you sit down.
That’s one way to do a Parade. Should be interesting. I may have to check that out.
Because “preventative measures like masks, physical distancing” have worked so well the past 10 months.
