“Weaponizing White Womanhood” Class Removed from FSU Summer Session

On March 15th, 2021, registration for Summer and Fall sessions at Florida State University started, and a class that was originally available during class Session C, has been removed from the course catalog and will no longer be offered by the university.

The recently removed class was offered by FSU’s Program in Women’s Studies and was titled, “The History of Karen: Weaponizing White Womanhood.” The class was designed to focus on the history  and the evolution of racism and how it is “weaponized” by white women. Karen, meaning the term created by the internet community that is a slur for an angry (sometimes racist) white woman.

The class was going to be taught by Dr. Meghan Martinez, an alumnus of Florida State University with a M.A. and Ph.D. in African American History. Martinez specializes in researching racial violence and lynching in the early 20th century.

After a flyer for the class was posted onto FSU’s website, criticism of the class’ subject started to stir controversy. As first reported by Campus Reform on March 27th 2021, the flyer includes the title of the class, an angry emoji with the hairstyle that is recognized by the internet community as the “Karen haircut”, a picture white women in KKK robes, and the infamous picture of Elizabeth Eckford of the ‘Little Rock Nine.’

Campus Reform also noted that one of the books planned to be used in the class, Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower, was written by Brittany Cooper, Associate Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Rutgers University, who was previously criticized by Campus Reform for tweeting, “F*ck each and every Trump supporter.”

Preston Scott of The Morning Show with Preston Scott reached out to FSU concerned about the “use of taxpayer dollars…to offer a course with an obvious slant of hate, divisiveness, and bigotry.”

By March 30th, 2021, the flyer was taken down from FSU’s website and the class was “withdrawn and will not be offered” according to the office of FSU President John Thrasher.

  1. College is a waste of money! Parents blow your cash in Vegas, you’ll have a great time and won’t have to argue with your “woke” kids when they tell you how much you suck.

  2. This is lazy journalism. It’s the same report repeated over and over again with no comments from anyone at FSU.

  3. F.S.U. is swamped with Marxist professors. All they will do is lie to you and rename the hate class under another title.

  4. The dean of the history department should be fired for even approving of that hateful class. The truth is FSU was founded as a college for women (mostly white) and for Prof. Martinez to offer a class like that is just sick. Glad Pres. Thrasher had the sense to pull this class.

  5. An honest look at the history of racism in this country would expose that the impetus and drivers can be found within the NaziCrat Party itself… from the Civil War, to the founding of the KKK, to opposing segregation and the Civil Rights movement, et al…

The “white supremacy” card so often and irresponsibility tossed around… is just a cover for and distraction from the real threat we face, that being “Woke Supremacy” the parallels of today’s NaziCrat Party and Germany in the ‘30s is astounding.

    1. Control the media
    2. Control the minds of the youth
    3. Eliminate the ability to defend
    4. Assign blame to a body of people
    5. Move to eliminate your opposition

  6. Wow:
If only I was “woke” enough to care anything whatsoever about what this article’s subject matter is.
    Kinda glad I dont care.
Teach your “woke” class…dont teach your “woke” class. Honestly…who cares…and if they do care I suggest they get a life.
I still love Steve’s Tallahassee Reports though.

  7. FSU needs to apologize to us. The idea that they would not only foster such a hateful, misguided idea, but try to teach it to young people is beyond reprehensible. Whoever thought that was a good idea for a class should be canned immediately.
