The Rickards High School Science Olympiad team was recognized at the May 11th Leon County School Board meeting. The team placed first in the Florida State competition on April 14th and is headed for the national stage.
The Science Olympiad is a competition where teams of up to 15 students compete in 24 different events in hopes of winning the champion title. The events include mathematics, physics, chemistry, earth and space science, biology, and engineering. During the events students engage in hands-on activities that are lab based, research based, and pre-built events.
The Rickards High Olympiad team finished the 2021 year undefeated in Florida, winning three invitational competitions at MIT, Yale, and Princeton. They placed first in regional and in the state competition. The team won medals in 20 of 24 events in the state championship competition.
The national competition will be held at Arizona State University. The event will take place May 22, 2021 and will be entirely virtual.
