LCS Title 1 Schools to Receive $10 Million Grant in 2021-22

During this Tuesday’s meeting the Leon County School Board will consider the approval of the 2021-2022 school year Title 1 Part A-Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged Grant in the amount of $10 million.

The grant provides additional funds/resources to Title 1 schools where students are economically disadvantaged. The goal of the grant is to “close educational achievement gaps and to build equity of opportunity” and provide services to allow for students to develop the skills to help them meet the requirements of the Florida Standards.

The federal government provides funding and the Florida Department of Education allocates the funds through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. School districts are funded based on the number of low-income students attending that school.

Over half of the Leon County’s 43 schools are listed as Title 1 schools. The $10 million grant will be used for 23 of these Title 1 schools which include 12 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 2 high schools, and 6 K-8 or charter schools.

Some of the services the grant will help to provide to Title 1 schools are the hiring of additional teachers to reduce class size and student/teacher ratio. This will allow for more focus on the needs of individual students.

Parent and family engagement is another primary focus. Parent resource centers, newsletters, and workshops are a few of the aids for parents to boost their participation in their child’s academics.

College and careers are another focus of the grant. Curriculum fairs, college and career fairs, speakers from Tallahassee Community College and Florida State University are but a few activities held to encourage students to achieve their goals.

  1. The 2012 Census data indicates that 94% of the households “of color” that are in poverty, are without either a mother or father. BLM’s main mission was/is the “destruction of the black family unit” in order to manufacture radical militants.

Mission fast on its was to being accomplished

  2. Neglectful parents need to participate and guide their children and if they don’t have the resources there are already resources that are available. Do the neglectful parents even make the effort to utilize the resources available? Put the neglectful parents pictures on big billboards. That will get their attention.

Identify the neglectful parents and offer neglectful parents coaching to turn them around otherwise up on the billboard they go.

  3. As always, it doesn’t matter how much money you through at the problem. So long as you continue to ignore the real problem, and blame an illusion… you will continue to waste valuable resources and will never achieve a solution.

… around the mountain of ignorance and waste we go… again, and again, and again…
