TPD Hires 17 New Officers

Chief Lawrence Revell announced on Monday, August 9, 2021, the swearing in of 17 new officers with the Tallahassee Police Department.

Chief Revell mentioned in a recent interview the need to hire on new officers and noted he would like to recruit 50 more people. Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) offers incentives such as, academy reimbursement, hiring bonuses, and they have increased the distance an officer can take-home their patrol car, up to a 50 miles radius, an increase of 15 miles.

Over the last year there have been many reports of law enforcement agents leaving departments in huge numbers across the nation. With the pandemic, riots, and severe scrutiny of officers and deputies it has been an increasing struggle for law enforcement agencies to keep their current personnel, as well as to recruit new individuals.

According to the Police Executive Research Forum, a survey performed in June 2021 of nearly 200 departments, there was a “45% increase in the retirement rate and a nearly 20% increase in resignations in 2020-21, compared to the previous year.”

The 17 new recruits for TPD are in addition to 13 new officers sworn in last June. Chief Revell said in a statement “the men and women who protect and serve this City are the boots on the ground. They are the core of this agency. It’s important we do all we can with recruitment efforts to hire new officers and retain other great officers to support them.”

The swearing in ceremony for new officers was held at City Hall with leaders and the honorees’ families in attendance. Chief Revell stated “I know these new officers are ready to do the important work of keeping our city safe and I could not be more proud of them.”

  1. Sherm,

So disrespectful, so uncalled for, but you are showing your hand that people like you are worried that truth and freedom Is encroaching upon your fiefdom.

Your reactions are mean-spirited and without any thoughtful or meaningful dialogue. Again, more evidence that your foundation is sinking sand. Remember this when you need assistance from law enforcement as you may want to rethink your hopeless agenda.

  2. Countdown to claims of a lack of diversity in 5..4..3..2..

Congratulations Officers… and thank you for your sacrifice, service, and commitment to law and order, and a safe community for people of all colors.

    God Bless and Godspeed
