Leon County Sends Reminders Letters to Employees Related to Vaccine Mandate

Leon County government has started sending reminder letters to employees related to the vaccine mandate policy adopted over the summer.

Based on information provided by Leon County Government, as of 11 a.m. today, 98% of the County’s 630 full-time employees have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Of those, only 15 employees still need to submit proof of vaccination by 11:59 p.m. tonight, Friday, October 1.

The reminder letter was sent by Leon County Human Resources to 46 employees whose records did not yet show of proof of vaccination. The vast majority of those 46 employees have already submitted the necessary paperwork and any remaining employees have until the 11:59 p.m. deadline to submit.

If any employees still have not submitted records by that deadline, termination letters will be issued Monday, October 4.

A copy of the letter is provided below.

The Vaccine Policy

In July, Leon County Administrator Vince Long notified all Leon County government employees that vaccinations against COVID-19 would become a condition of employment with the county, citing a “resurgence” of the virus in the county.

According to the communication, all County employees were required to get vaccinated by October 1.

The employee notification stated:

“Today, as vaccinations stagnate and the delta variant has created a resurgence of the COVID 19 virus with the state of Florida at its epicenter, vaccinations against COVID 19 will now become a condition of employment at Leon County Government for new and existing employees under the supervision of the County Administrator and the County Attorney.”

In September, Governor Ron DeSantis notified Florida cities and counties that require COVID-19 vaccinations as a condition of employment will be fined $ 5,000 per violation.

During a press conference, DeSantis said government agency vaccine mandates violate state law that prohibits private companies from requiring “vaccine passports” for customers.

“We are going to stand up for the men and women who are serving us. We are going to protect Florida’s jobs,” DeSantis said. “We are not going to allow people to be fired because of a vaccine mandate.”

On September 23rd, Judge Monica Brasington of the 8th Judicial Circuit Court issued a temporary injunction against the City of Gainesville’s COVID vaccine mandate.

Brasington said in her ruling that the city did not provide ample evidence showing a vaccine mandate serves “a compelling interest through the least restrictive means.” She also said the city bears the burden of proof to determine that the mandate is in the best interest of the public.

Following the decision, The City of Gainesville rescinded the policy that required employees to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

  1. And the Communist takeover has begun. Good job Tallahassee. MANDATING someone get an injection or they are FIRED? WOW! just WOW!

  2. @ John. Those admitted to the hospital for MI’s, DKA, A-fib, CVAs or who need CABGs etc .and have a BMI > 30 should not be covered by insurance. This is because these people are fat and did not take care of themselves and did it to themselves. If they only used free methods of dieting and exercising then they would not cost our healthcare system billions and billions of dollars.

  3. @ John: If you see me coming you better run, son. Cause I’m gonna be doin some heavy mouth breathing all up in your face, and when you ax me bout my vax status I’m gonna tell you to mind your own dang business before I have to mind it for ya.

    ya lil totalitarian…

  4. @ John… and what about those who have taken the two shots of sugar water and fertilizer runoff, and STILL get the China Bio-Weapon Flu?… which is happening more and more and more…

  5. The County should not be requiring their employees get vaccinated. Instead, the Companies providing Health Insurance policies to County employees should be notifying employees that unless a legitimate medical reason can be provided, those employees being admitted to the hospital that are not vaccinated will be responsible for the payment of their hospital costs. Insurance Companies should want to keep policies low for their policy-holders and this can’t happen if those policy-holders who are vaccinated are having to subsidize the hospital costs of those folks who do not want to get vaccinated.

Why would anyone with any economic sense not want a free vaccine rather than risk substantial out-of-pocket health costs for long-term hospital stays? The fact is the majority of folks being hospitalized now with Covid are those that are not vaccinated.

Some of the people who don’t want Covid vaccines seem to be the same folks who believed Mexico was going to pay for a border wall and then sent their money to some Grifter’s organization to help pay for the wall when that didn’t happen; a wall only partially constructed with no structural integrity.

  6. It’s a personal medical choice and our County Administrator can’t even keep Waste Pro under control much less he’s playing doctor?

The same person who is playing King and implements a mandate is the same person who allows a project like the Boulos project on Apalachee Parkway. Allows the sheriff to give funds to the Sheriff’s campaign manager under the guise of a lobbying contract. Allows funds for junkets at Sandestin and Amelia Island to be expended on the taxpayers dime.

Long is in cahoots with Scott Maddox and Yordon on many of their schemes and is mentioned multiple times in the FBI tapes for putting people in place to further Scott Maddox’s agenda such as Ben Pingree and Paige Carter Smith.

He didn’t say anything, he looked the other way, and he even participated… How dare he attempt to take power over human beings choices and private information. Pray!

  7. The leftist are emboldened by our unelected President and his regime.

When the leftist can’t win an election, they steal it. When the leftist can’t win an argument, they censor their opponents. When the leftist don’t agree with a law, they flagrantly disobey it.

The Governor must enforce his laws with significant penalties and protect these employees from wrongful termination.

  8. I hope these employees are smart enough – when asked about their vaccination status – to exorcise their right under Federal Law to keep their personal medical information private. Answer only that, repeat if necessary, and say NO MORE.

Then, when this communist tyrant Long fires them for “not disclosing their personal medical information”, which is their right under existing LAW… they quickly contact a local Dewey, Screw’em, and How… and sue these commie clowns to the hilt.

  9. You have a HUGE number of Employees that have complied, THEY can still get Covid just as easily as the Unvaccinated AND pass it on to others so, if the unvaccinated Employees want to risk it, it’s their Life. I got Vaccinated a long time ago because I wanted to lower my risk of Dying because I have to much to do and Friends to pester to Die now.
