TPD & LCSO to Participate Cancer Awareness Initiatives

October is breast cancer awareness month, and to help raise awareness, Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) are participating in awareness initiatives.

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer will affect 1 in 8 women in the United States throughout their lifetime.

As a pledge to raise awareness and funds for research, TPD is working with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare to “Go Pink” for the entire month of October by wearing pink patches and badges on their uniforms.

Kathy Brooks, the Administrator of Oncology Services at TMH, said they are thrilled to work with TPD on the initiative. She added, “In addition to showing our support for breast cancer survivors and those still fighting, ‘Go Pink’ gives us an opportunity to educate our community on breast cancer signs and symptoms and resources available locally.”

In the same vein, the LCSO is also participating in wearing pink, and for a $10-$20 donation, they are offering commemorative embroidered patches and LCSO coins. Citizens and collectors can get their hands on one by contacting Captain Jimmy Goodman at goodmanj@leoncountyfl.gov.

Citizens also participated by donating and supporting a deputy in the “Best Beard” competition. Five deputies partook in the competition for the “Real Men Wear Pink” and the American Cancer Society. The deputy that raised the most donations will be featured in the fashion show finale at LCSO’s annual Patrol Stroll on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 7 p.m. in CollegeTown. The fashion show is free and open to the public.

Crime is one of my Top Agenda’s on why I am running for County Commissioner (District 5). You can read about my Plan as well as other Agendas on my Platform at Hawkins2022.com

  2. They should be spending every waking moment making Tallahassee safe to walk the streets. Its not right now, and no amount of pink is going to help put an end to the daily gunfire on the south side of town.
