Leon County School Board Meeting Briefs October 12, 2021

During the Leon County School Board meeting on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, the Board heard from Chief John Hunkiar regarding the Safe School Assessment. In addition, he gave a brief update on some of the steps LCS takes to protect students on campus.

He stated every school property is geo-fenced, there are security stations on some campuses linked to mass notification systems and school radio systems. Recently, two School Safety Analysts were brought on to monitor data and information that comes into the security office. They have evaluated over 3000 inquiries and, from these, investigated 276 suicide risks and 106 behavioral risks.

Some new implementations are upgrading the radio systems, providing better camera coverage in the stadiums, and enhancing visitor management systems.

According to Vice-Chair Darryl Jones, he has received feedback from principals from several schools, and they have reported an uptick in suspensions and expulsions.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Alan Cox discussed updated COVID-19 data during the meeting. He stated approximately 8 out of every 10 LCS employees are vaccinated. Also, in the last eight days, the average number of positive cases is down to about five students a day.

Dr. Cox’s recommendations to the Board include:
• There should be no changes in the current quarantine protocol.
• A change in the current medical op-out option for masks to a parent opt-out option for grades K-8.
• Also, open campuses for volunteers/mentors and reinstate field trips but follow social distancing and mask guidelines.

The Board voted 3-1 to accept a parent opt-out option for grades K-8.

Board Member Alva Striplin encouraged Hanna to withdraw the lawsuit against the state. She also recommended halting the opening of campuses and not to allowing visitors back on campus just yet. However, she does support the changes to the mask options for parents.

Striplin then made two motions which failed due to a lack of support. The motions were to direct the superintendent to draft a letter stating the LCSB is in compliance with the state orders. Also, to have Hanna withdraw the lawsuit.

The Board approved the negotiation with the architectural firm of MLD Architects, LLC the highest ranked firm, for Griffin Middle School Remodeling and Renovations to building 15 and Associated Spaces Project.

The Board also approved the negotiation with the architectural firm of Hoy+Stark Architects, P.A. for the Hartsfield Elementary School, building 2 Cafeteria Replacement Project.

The Board approved the HoyStark Architects, P.A., to provide professional services at Rickards High School Phase V, in the amount of $34,202.00. Services include architectural and engineering services to reroof of the existing buildings 13, 18, and 19.

The Board also approved the demolition and removal of 20 portable buildings at PACE Secondary School. The bid was awarded to Demco Environmental, LLC, which submitted the lowest bid in the amount of $68,500.

  1. ANYONE, who tries to Hide or Cover Up a Crime should be charged with Aiding & Abetting as well as Accessory After The Fact.

  2. The County Administrator and School Superintendent picked the wrong side of humanity to play on. They’re attempting to carry out the Botched Biden Administration agenda.

It is almost sad to watch their futile display which has become embarrassing. When will they learn to do their jobs instead of carrying out maniacal and diabolical political agendas?

They cannot compete against the best Governor in America who does his job and rightfully protects the citizens he took an oath to serve.

  3. How many gropings, molestations, and rapes committed by transdelusional has THIS Stupidintendant and Fool Board covered up?… that’s the real question.

  4. It doesn’t matter that Alva presented hard evidence that masks do not appear to have any great effect on positivity rates, Rocky Hannah made it clear that “he will not be bullied!”
So our children are still in masks because of Rocky’s pride not facts.
Start arresting these lawless leaders and the rest will fall in line…with the law.

  5. Schools receive funding based on the number of students enrolled. I think they should receive funding based on the number of enrolled students that can read, write and do math at grade level or above grade level. The funding for the students performing below grade level should go to their parents to pay for a school in which their children can succeed. This option should also be available to parents who don’t want their child indoctrinated against them.

  6. “Striplin then made two motions which failed due to a lack of support. The motions were to direct the superintendent to draft a letter stating the LCSB is in compliance with the state orders. Also, to have Hanna withdraw the lawsuit.”

Science, reality, and common sense rebuffed and rejected… and these left-wing wakjobs profess to be intelligent and are in charge of educating our children.

STOP THE INSANITY… DEFUND THE PUBLIC INDOCTRINATION SYSTEM

  7. Withdraw Rocky Hannah and the law suit will go with him. Rocky Hannah framed his predecessor and accused him of criminal acts…Pons was eventually exonerated.

Hannah is a despicable person and the reason why less than half of his students can read and write at a “satisfactory” level.

    What a disgrace…

  8. The Virus King has been recorded saying that Covid will never go away now so, you might want to start making Plans for the future NOW.

  9. Alva Striplin is right on withdrawing the lawsuit against the state.

When leadership is involved in lawsuits the leadership has failed..
