Medical Center Planned for Market Square Shopping Center

According to Tallahassee Growth Management records, Sanitas Medical Center is planning to open a location in the redeveloped Market Square Shopping Center.

Media reports indicate Sanitas opened its first medical center in Doral, Florida and has 35 locations across the state, as well as locations in Texas, Tennessee and New Jersey.

In 2014, Sanitas – with a substantial presence in South America – entered the United States market through a strategic alliance with GuideWell, a leading a health solutions organization focused on healthcare. The organization includes Florida Blue (Florida’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan).

During the first year, Sanitas opened three medical centers serving the Miami-Dade County. These medical centers offer primary care, select specialty care, urgent care, laboratory, and diagnostic services. By 2017 Santas had grown to eleven locations, nine in Florida in partnership with GuideWell and two Locations in Connecticut in partnership with ConnectiCare and GuideWell.

Sanitas is following a relatively new model for primary care — clinics within retail stores or in suburban shopping centers — which has been driven by a consumer expectation of easy access, and quick response times for care.

The Permit Application

On June 9, 2022 a permit application was filed with the City of Tallahassee for an office renovation at 1415 Timberlane for a value $2,663,016.

The project is called Sanitas Killearn.

The architectural drawings show administration offices along with 8 exam rooms, 9 work stations, and a x-ray and ultrasound area.

Tallahassee Reports is seeking comment from Sanitas and will update the story when more information becomes available.

  1. @David H — I’m probably one of the few people on this board that knows where Lebanon, TN is. I typically drive through it several times a year as my in-laws live about an hour North of there.

@David B — A labor shortage drives the price of employees up and ultimately the product they’re selling.

  2. I’d like to know where they are going to get skilled employees when every other medical related center in Tallahassee is scrambling to hire people to fill their positions.

  3. I have always been Curious how Companies come up with their Names. Why is this Business using the Killearn Name when Killearn is about a Mile away? It’s like the Charlotte Motor Speed Way, when the Speedway is actually in Concord, NC about 35 Miles away. The Nashville Motor Speedway is actually in Lebanon, TN 40 Miles away. By the way, I ran Mustangs on both those Tracks and there were no Hotels in Lebanon. I had to drive from Nashville all 5 Days of the Event…..yeah, it was worth it..
