Tallahassee Community College Partners with Amazon’s Career Choice Program

Tallahassee Community College (TCC) has been selected as an education partner for Amazon’s Career Choice Program, providing Amazon’s hourly employees access to training programs in HVAC, Machining, and Welding.

In 2023, Amazon’s new Tallahassee fulfillment center is slated to launch. Its opening will create around 1,000 full-time jobs.

“We are thrilled to partner with Amazon to provide educational opportunities for their employees,” said Dr. Jim Murdaugh, president of Tallahassee Community College. “Amazon’s commitment to investing in their employees by expanding access to education and career training is exemplary, and directly aligns with our mission as a workforce engine for our community.”

The TCC press release explained that Amazon’s Career Choice program is an education benefit that empowers employees to learn new skills for career success at Amazon or elsewhere. The program meets individual learners where they are on their education journey through a variety of education and upskilling opportunities including pre-paid college tuition, industry certifications designed to lead to in-demand jobs, and foundational skills such as English language proficiency, high school diplomas, and GEDs.

In the U.S., the company is investing $1.2 billion to upskill more than 300,000 employees by 2025 to help move them into higher-paying, in-demand jobs.

“We’re looking forward to providing Career Choice to employees in Tallahassee, so they can have pre-paid access to the education and training they need to grow their careers at Amazon and beyond,” said Helen Candamil, who is part of Amazon’s Workforce Staffing team in Florida. “We work with education partners like Tallahassee Community College who are committed to student success and providing flexible schedules. At Amazon, we also provide employees with a variety of work schedules to accommodate their learning, so they can balance being an employee and a student.”

Amazon’s Career Choice program has a rigorous selection process for third-party partner educators, choosing partners that are focused on helping employees through their education programs, assisting them with job placements, and overall offering education that leads to career success.

“We’re excited Tallahassee Community College is coming on board as an education partner for Career Choice, adding to the hundreds of best-in-class offerings available to our employees,” said Tammy Thieman, Global Program Lead of Amazon’s Career Choice program.

  1. TCC doesn’t pay its own employees a livable wage–typical salary for a 15 year long office staff worker is between 27K and 31K. Offices are understaffed; the college lost its fulltime mental health counselors; the Writing Center and Library are understaffed and the custodial department is understaffed. You can look wages up on the state of Florida right to know website. TCC only recently started contributing more to family health insurance because they couldn’t attract new hires.

  2. I thought I saw a story recently about Amazon soon to layoff thousands and thousands of employees nationwide. I guess their China Bio-Weapon Scamdemic money haul is slimming down now that people can go out to shop.

Are these soon-to-be laid off Amazon employees being offered the chance to transfer here to Tallahassee to fill these jobs?
